No Detroit C8

People buy cars, not PR. And buyers don't need PR to find out about a car today. So, if they want to go to a car show, they will. If not, they'll just buy it sight unseen. Do you know any new Corvette buyers who don't see the car, don't go to the Bash, and order BEFORE prices are set in late May, June, or whenever (sometimes a little later even)?[/QUOTE]

Detroit is in my opinion is the show that will debut the new c8.
its the real show for the US market.
NY show that ive gone to for decades is the weekend of easter...good friday is the first day of the show.
we will know earlier in december when the c8 is set to release.

Ask a New Yorker what they think of cars. They will tell you everyone should be riding public transportation.
I can't think of a more depressing place for a debut.

Do I know them personally? No. However, almost every major Corvette dealer already has a list of ME Corvette buyers who have put money down. I know for a fact that one of the major dealers had a list of ME Corvette buyers back in 2015 when we were not sure it was a ME car. But this is old news.

My thoughts if it’s NY. I asked many when I heard about the new ME when did they show the first Corvette. Hum can you say NY. The first generation of the Corvette was introduced late in 1953 model year. Originally designed as a show car for the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, it generated enough interest to induce GM to make a production version to sell to the public.
The C7 stops production in March of 2019. If they show it in Detroit they still have more C7 not selling. NY only buys them another two months from Detroit show. Once ME is announced C7 will stop selling and major discounting will happen especially on automatics not as much on manuals if the ME is only DCT.
I still think the new C8 will be released in Detroit. NY does make sense as this was the first release of the brand, the ME is a drastic departure and major change ( like a rebirth) I am one who believes the ME we been seeing is the base car and the FE is dead for now.

Selfishly I want the unveiling in Detroit since the show is 45 minutes away. Objectively an unveiling in GM's backyard seems obvious. Also GM just pulled the plug on Cadillac's HQ in NY. They sure don't seems too bullish on NY's image of late.

I also heard from a very reliable source it would be NY. However, that's just the current thinking, and a quick change of car show venue for a debut can happen on short notice.

GM unveiled the C7 at the Detroit Show. Three months later they unveiled the C7 convertible at the New York show. GM unveiled the ZR-1 in Dubai and then for the US at the LA Auto Show. So I wouldn't rule out the New York Show. Ask yourself this question why is the Detroit show moving to June in 2020?

Good Points. The reveals are strategically planned for getting the most coverage for GM marketing purposes. The lack of participants (European brands) at Detroit next year hurts this strategy. New York will get more coverage, and it's right before the Michelin Bash in Bowling Green. That allows two back-to-back reveals with the two audiences GM wants most to reach in April 2019, the automotive press (NY) and the faithful (BG) in April. Just in time to allow orders to flow in for delivery next Fall !

Detroit, NYC, Chicago...I just don't care anymore.
I'm not on tenterhooks about the unveiling.
No longer interested in this little game GM is playing with fans of the Corvette.

IMO, the reveal will be in NYC. Early April will give the dealers more time to unload their C7s. There will be a fire sale on C7s starting around Christmas. It you want yesterday's "news" that will be the time to buy. First deliveries of C8 in early Fall.

I'm just hoping there are a lot of fake panels under all that camo wrap. I'm not loving the colorized renders of the mule shape, but certain renders like the Car Scoops version look really great.

I would think knowing how much of the car has been revealed thus far it would be pretty difficult to keep the finished product under wraps until late March. Unless something is really wrong design wise and so little time between March and actual production begins, I would guess you'd see plenty of the real deal floating around the streets before then.. Have to remember, GM still has not even acknowledged the car exists....

The New York Auto Show is later than usual next year, with the public days not starting until April 19th — with even the press days being on April 17th/18th.
That seems like an unfathomable waiting time.

It's people here playing the guessing game. GM is not playing at all. You can't develop and build a new product without extensive testing on both public roads and tracks, and all manufacturers do everything possible to disguise it. They simply don't want to reveal the finished product until they feel they have it right. That's not a game, it's how things must be done.
But the camo cars have been around quite awhile now.
There must be some real problems they're dealing with

I am finding out I am not a very patient guy. I Still think GM has too many C7 on the ground and will try to be fair to their dealers, by releasing the ME closer to customers ordering dates. ( is that 1 2 3 or 5 months from releasing the ME I don’t know). I was hoping to have an ME in my garage in 2019, many I know on the sideline won’t wait till 2020 and will move into another product. Plus there is a possibility the economy will be in a slow down by 2020, all I can say timing is very important and GM needs to hit a home run. GM needs a return on their investment with the BG plant upgrade, dragging things out doesn’t make the bean counters happy. One negative thing happening now is car sales are slowing no thanks to the higher interest rates. GM I am waiting patiently but I want you to know eventually I could lose interest as I did with the NSX. GM Please no more teasing I feel like my high school adolescence is starting all over again and unfortunately, I threw away my calendar from the 1980”s.
