Corvette Manta Ray: GM's bold new plan
#23
Manta Ray is a ridiculous name, I just can't believe that is what it will be called. That's how they will attract younger, affluent import drivers? I don't think so. The name alone is embarrassing.

He's not taken seriously by many in here, though, as has served more as filler entertainment during this quiet lull b/n ME spottings and actual facts leaked.

I think much of what the OP wrote makes good sense. Doing a "Touring" version especially is smart as most Corvettes are NOT used on the track, and we are rich with "track" cars now (GS Z07/ Z06 Z07/ZR1).
I would love to see GM take a page out of Porsche's playbook and do a REAL track variant, de-contended (lighter) and a bump in HP (ala GT2RS/GT3RS/GT4). Offer a limited number and pre-sell them. EASY MONEY.

I don't see how that's possible @ 6.2L given current emissions standards. In order to create those #'s it would need quite a bit larger camshaft than what's currently int he LT1. It would also need to rev a bit higher as peak HP would need to be +6500RPM, likely necessitating port fuel-injection in compliment to the current DI only.

On Point, Yes, I heard that for the non-base Corvette. I heard that the first year base Corvette would most likely be the LT1 with a little more hp. And the second year where they would introduce GS would be a 4.2 twin turbo. So from what I have heard, they are right on point!

"I’m close enough to the inside to know the following about GM’s plans for the Corvette."
So this guy is not on the inside of Corvette or GM. There is no explanation of his sources or how he got his information.
Anyone with actual knowledge who breaks GM's information embargo is terminated immediately and permanently, period.
"If you don’t believe me then that’s fine, I wouldn’t either if I was in your shoes."
So now he is off the hook for any BS being spread. Got it.
"The C8 Corvettes at Nürburgring are the real thing."
Did anyone not know this? Why is he telling us this?
"A DCT transaxle is used in all C8 Corvettes, no exceptions."
Everyone knows this too. What is the point?
"The R&D investment in the DCT is said to be equivalent to that of both the manual and automatic in the C7 - they knew they had one chance to get the DCT right."
This is a nonsense statement: GM spent basically nothing additional for the transmissions in the C7 and if they built a DCT like the A8, they did not get it right. Should have bought a Getrag and saved time and money.
Bottom Line: This guy is a PR person or salesman who has heard some rumors.
What will GM do with all those Cadillac Blackwing TTs that now have no home with the CT6 cancelled?
Gee, I wonder?

It sounds reasonable. Just, what happens to the allocations process if any GM dealer can sell the brand.
