Why are we discussing Porsche? The title of this thread says Ferrari and Lamborghini.

why not? just start a youtube channel and your 1st post that titled "I bought a mid engine supercar!" and become youtube famous.

Then "I supercharged my C8"
"First C8 in 10s"
"I single turbo'd my C8"
"First C8 in 9s"
"I crashed my C8"
"I bought a C8 ZR1"
"I bought a Mclaren"
in three yrs they will be posting "I bought a Chiron!"

Finally if you have about a million to spend on a car there's the Porsche 918 Spyder. The only downside of that car is that some people confuse it with a far less expensive Corvette: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6e0dH7D3Xg
I have driven 996 and 997 a lot, and co-drove a GT3 for a series back in 2010. The 996 and 997 just have poor front-end dynamics to me. The bobbing into and out of corners just drives me nuts. It's the Mcpherson struts... I am just allergic to them. Frankly, the Cayman/Spyder/718 is flat out superior to the 911, except for the deficit of power. The only 911 I would buy would be the GT3, and it is one cool car...pure, NA, everything a RS Porsche should be. But there is a long list of cars I'd own before a Porsche. Our other car in the garage has always been a MBZ or a BMW, so we are not german-averse...

Ferrari and Lamborghini buyers do not cross shop for a Corvette but may add a Corvette. There is more to a vehicle purchase than performance when you look at high end cars.

For Pikes Peak I see Chevrolet has 14 overall wins and yet Porsche only has 1.
You can pick and chose, but from my perspective I've always looked at the FIA World Endurance Championship (duration 24 hours) as being the best measure of a car's performance and durability. Below you'll find who has won that championship the most.

Most wins (driver)Tom Kristensen (9)

Most wins (team)Joest Racing (13)

Most wins (manufacturer)Porsche (19)

If you have the money to buy a Huracan don’t even hesitate the C8 will be a very nice car, but I think people are getting a little delusional already comparing it real exotic cars, in 4 years there will be C8’s on every street corner, Lambo’s ...... not so much

I have had several Ferraris, currently a 488. I have an Aventador and a new Ford GT all of which makes me an expert on nothing other than how to **** away money. I also have a deposit at Kerbeck for a C8–why?

I grew up with Vettes—the great American sports car—the greatest bang for the buck, and a car I can drive to work or to the store and generally not worry about. I have had first year C5s, C6s and C7s—remarkably mostly trouble free. I have had 9 Vipers—love American sports cars.

im particularly excited about the prospect of a mid engine, which to me provides a better driving experience.

”Most”, not all “exotic” owners I know don’t look down their noses at Vettes.

Although I'm not a Ferrari or Lambo owner, I have a 2017 AMG GT S that was $153K new. I'm considering buying a C8 but my decision won't come until next year because I have too many unanswered questions about the C8. I've had C3, C5 and C6 Vettes and my last GM car was a CTS-V. Aside from performance questions about the C8, I want to see if has a high-quality interior and how good its build quality will be. Unless it has a much better interior and tech than previous Vettes, I';; stick with German performance cars. Reliability of Italian cars sucks and their cost of service and repair is astronomical.

NO offense but I’ve had 3 recent Ferraris and they’ve been the best built cars I’ve owned. They also come with with 6 years free maintenance.

7 Years Free Maintenance, and compared to my old 355 the 488 is built 100x better. Yes I would by a C8.

It is just not enough of a status symbol for these folks. If one can afford to drive and pay the consumables for a $400,000+ car, one is simply not interested in the bang-for-the-buck argument. The exception to the rule would be someone who is wealthy enough to have a collection of cars, in which case adding a ZR1 or similar makes sense, or someone who has a racing hobby, in which case a Corvette or Porsche track special makes sense.

By the same token, owners of older exotics such as the Gallardo, Modena 360, and so on, who have suffered the crazy maintenance and have decided it does not make sense to shell out $475,000 for a 488 Pista but still want a newer very fast toy... might spring for the top-level Corvette... again, the ZR1.
Eh, it would catch attention to the car guy I wager. I could see a C8 ZR1 (if theres a vert) being a stable mate to the 488 Spider in my garage as Im not likely to see an 812 Aperta (which is a mandatory to acquire if it comes about, I like the open air orchestra option on street cars when applicable). All are/would be street cars. Some exotic car guys are aware of Corvette, and some even have track rat corvettes. To me... and just me, GM hasnt really made a compelling experience (my assessment on too much seat time in C7) as of late. GM will not compete on warranty and maintenance in any way shape or form, and its to their detriment. The C7Z experiences Ive had well, it's put the bar very high before I trust GM. It doesnt mean I fecalize all over GM (they get that wrath when you ditch rear air vents in your crew cabs)

Bench racing performance numbers on a street car = yawn from me; its the experience and visceral emotions that draws me. If its a street car, its gotta elicit that and bring smiles per mile; but again, thats my opinion.

I do concur with your overall idea btw. Its a compelling case (the C8) and it can punch above, but Im highly skeptical as to the value if the performance attribute is the only saving grace. Where I disagree is if in track car application. There are faster options that would be superior to a prospective ZR1 in a myriad of ways. A base C8 is an answer there but GM does not seem interested in letting that be the case.

I like Corvettes, always have - I'm 77 - like my C7, but not married to it. Looking forward to a C8. I also have an old 328 GTB Ferrari - it's not for sale and I split the DD duties between it and the C7... and, yes, I take long trips in the Ferrari. I bought it to drive, not be a piece of garage furniture..... and the Vettes? Got more than 800,000 miles in Corvettes... at the end of the day: Ferrari, Corvette, Rolls, etc. - they're all just cars.

Or be the test case for GM to work out all the bugs and problems inherent with a brand new design.

But it shouldn't be that way in 2019. I ordered a 981S in 2012 and have had 0 problems. It's over six years old, and the only money I spent on it was for routine maintenance.

Agreed - I skipped the C8 because of the poor production quality on the exterior. I would've been more okay with the C8 had they released it with a manual option. I'm waiting on the C9 now and I just bought a gated Gallardo to hold me over. Don't know what to do if the C9 doesn't come in a manual, but the C7 sure is strong enough for me - my love affair with Corvettes has been love/hate lately...

Have a 2004 gated Ferrari 360 spider and a 2008 Porsche Cayman S manual shift neither of them are going anywhere. The C8 is an additional car to have fun with. I really do not care what people think. about my cars. I drive them very little. I do not have them to say look at me. I have them because I love to look at them and take them for a run . I have been a member of the local Ferrari club for 25 years. None of people I told laughed (at least to my face ) when I mentioned I am getting a C8. I did have several mentioned that they hoped I would bring the C8 out on a track day. BTW 98% of the people of Ferrari Club of America are nice people. Though they may prefer Ferrari but they do not waste time and energy scoffing at other cars. They will talk your ears off about the merits and faults of Ferrari.

I had a 360 spider for 12 years. I loved that car and it was super reliable. It wasn't my DD and I never drove it in the rain. I decided I wanted to get down to one car and it would not be a ragtop. The C8 looks like a modern version of the 360 where they went from smooth curves to sharp lines. I get upgraded performance (DCT, more powerful engine) and all the new technology (Bluetooth, TPMS, etc.), including a HTC where I can make calls for work while in driving with the top up. Since I will be driving the car everyday, I did not want the engine under glass. I'm too OCD and did not want to have to keep that clean. Plus I get a warranty and cheap repair bills,
