What do you think will be GM's "big surprise" with the C8?
#81
EDIT - To clarify... this is on the base car unveiled on 7/18/19. Not some future Zora/ZR1.
We've heard chatter that the standard C8 will have something really unexpected/groundbreaking... what do you think it will be?
I think the LT2 will be something other than standard single cam in block. The quick image in the first teaser video shows a massive dual-gerotor oil pump and a 2nd timing chain.

that everything works on the first c8s so folks can buy them and the kai zen QC can continue.
I think C8 will sell better than prior vettes despite nay sayers
it' will be healthy dollap of performance and prepare for the future ZR-1 which will be very competitive and able to punch above the weight class (welterweight price, heavy weight punch!!!)
GM needs a flagship, and hopefully the long delays have enabled them to "get it right"
that would be a big surprise to many

I'll be happy if the "surprise" is the absence of the "snaggle tooth" mouth. Hopefully, that is a fake camo piece, but I suspect it is not.
I expect it to be much like the Chazcron renders, with numerous little differences that will add up to a more pleasing overall appearance in the flesh. That would closely parallel the C7 renders that were close, but the real thing was much better.
I would be ecstatic if a manual were announced, even as "coming in the future," but I doubt that will happen either.

This is an area where the race car tech would be great on a street car but it would sacrifice luggage space so I doubt it. The vette will likely have a pretty big frunk and still room in back.
this is not going to be a lambo with no room to pack under wear and AC that doesn't.

It's going to be like Christmas morning.
I think our imaginations about how things will be always tend to be more grand than they actually turn out to be.
That's why my mom used to tell us kids on Christmas Eve that wanting is better than having, and he who expects nothing is never disappointed.
I think that the big surprise is that it will be here, and we'll finally get to dig into the drivetrain, options and all that goes with a new completely new Corvette platform.
We will get to see the car without camo, and all the snappy new colors we can buy it with.
I was just starting to get into to the camo. Even Kate Beckinsale was getting into the camo.

The "big surprise"? That would be the dct. So no surprise.
And to the people thinking 7:18:19 is related to a Nürburgring laptime... That would be disappointing for a 500+ hp ME DCT with modern R tires, definitely not something to boast about in public. The Camaro did a 7:16 for crying out loud.

ZL1 Camaro did that with 650HP and R-Comp tires. I would expect a base C8 to have ~ 150 less HP and PS4S tires.

Due to flagging NSX sales (170 units sold in 2018), C8 production will be moved to Japan. Minimal mold changes required. BG will be retooled to produce $100,000 2020 Silverados.

C4 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
I thought that the "new for GM" ability to raise the front end to assist with entry/exit of driveways was quite a surprise. For those of you in-the-know, is this still supposed to appear on the C8?

They don't look like each other at all other than they are both mid-engine. It is like saying a corvette and Mercedes GTR look alike since they are both front-engine.

The front is my favorite part... tired of the fish mouth on the C6/7.

That it looks absolutely nothing like the padded mules would suggest. Huge difference, beyond our imaginations.
There’d be no reason for such bulletproof security if the real car looks anything like the mule’s hints. It’s radically different. I’d almost guarantee it.

The GM webpage says you won't believe your eyes... or ears. I wonder if there will be an engine option the first year... it's hard to say honestly but whatever it is, GM is releasing it on their timeline... but if you're hearing something... I'd imagine something is a little different with the engine.
