Default Who will take their car to the track???

I see alot of people talking about downforce and top speed but wondering who will actually take their cars on top speed runs at the track since whe speed limit on highways as 75 or 80 at best its all really just bs.

It's impossible to really tell with precision how many Corvette owners actually track their cars. There have been polls about that here, with the inherent problems of open polls. But the actual number may be around 5%. But people want to have the option, because, you know, they might, someday, if they get around to it.

A few times a year for me....I have an NHRA drag strip 10 miles from my house that runs Friday night fun drags with a $20 entrance fee. As many runs as you want for the price of a case of beer. So there is 125 mph right there..

There are also multiple race tracks within an hour of Portland that will facilitate 130+ mph straights....

I frequently autocross my sports cars and try to make a few open track days a year if possible. If I can get my hands on a C8, I plan to continue the trend. As is with everything, most of it is just marketing -- people like the idea that they're driving a "race car" even if it's only ever around town.

I will. That's why I bought the Z06. A reasonably low cost track car compared to a dedicated race car. (Been there done that in SCCA). Get some instruction and put it on the track even if you only do it once a year!

The top speed on the c7 with z51 pack is 185 mph so i would say 190 for the c8 no one except a pro driver will ever get close to that so its bs what does matter is the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times

Top speed runs? Dunno about that. Some combo of AutoX/HPDE/TT/Bracket racing (ie not door to door, needimg a plie of safety mods and gear racing)? I dunno the purpose of owning a performance car if you're not doing that.

The most/max I got out of My Z06 was 179mph. ( did have stage 3 aero)… Not a pro driver. Your numbers are off for a Z51 C7.... Highway runs....

Oh and I will track it.....

I'm sure I'll offend a few here, but I never really thought of drag racing
(1/4 mile straight line) as a test of skill of the driver or really racing. Is Lewis Hamilton more of a racer than Don Garlits......I think so.

Wow, comparing yourself to Louis Hamilton, you must be good.

I will definitely be taking my new C8 to the track. I have done both Laguna and Sonoma as well as some airport 1/2 mile runs with my current cars. Can't wait to see how the C8 really performs!

I’ve never owned a sports car, I’ve always wanted a Vette. C8 Z06 will be my first. I’m already planning on taking it to Road Atlanta and even closer and highly recommended by a friend who races bikes, Barber Motorsports..hopefully get some lessons and go a few times per year.
I asked in an earlier post but got no responses if anyone knew the club price for RA, if anyone does I’d appreciate some insight.
ill probably just do single day passes unless I become a track junkie and don’t mind burning through rubber and brake pads etc. I imagine they’ll be pretty pricy to replace.

I'm lucky to have 3 tracks that I visit a few times a year so I intend to exercise it a few times if for nothing more than to understand what it does close to the limit, definitely not on the street. A little concerned about the stone chips that are a regular track day result, may consider PPF for the first time ever!

I'll be waiting to see what the C8 Z06 will have to offer, and also whether or not they under engineer the cooling system for track use. Then I'll decide if that's what I buy or maybe a GS instead. Whatever the case, I'll definitely do some track days in whichever C8 I get. I suspect it'll be just slightly more civilized than my current modded C6 Z06.

Check Motorsport.reg open track days novice category you will get an instructor. Chin Motorsports goes there, price is reasonable. I will track my C8 when I get one, I tracked my c7 ZO6 Amd stingray before that
