Would be nice if we could be a little less wound up about an actual fun little stick car winning the comparison this year. Nice that actually still make stick cars, especially in a world where the only option on a new Vette is an auto (you can call it manual, I call anything in which the car takes care of everything and selects the gears after receiving an electrical signal an auto)
Umm...yeah...about that...

They weren't particularly happy about the ZR1 winning the 2019 contest either:

They just about had a kitten when the NSX won:

Crazy given that they didn't even have a dog in the fight.

I think people just think that we all believe the C8 should have won. I have no idea if it should or shouldn’t have as I’ve never driven one (obviously as hardly anyone has). But I do know I don’t want a FWD eco box. I do get they’d like to include cheaper cars and give them a legit opportunity to win as most of the world has no shot at affording some of the cars that end up on the list, a Senna is about a million bucks and it was on there last year.

I’ve never driven the new Supra, the C8, the new M2, a 600LT, or whatever else on the list I haven’t driven and know I’d much rather take those for a spin.

Every manufacturer and vehicle team has a right to be offended by this idiotic PCOTY. Let's see how many bother to provide a vehicle for next year's "test". If I'm McLaren, Nissan, Chevrolet, Porsche, Lambo...I damn sure am not going to bother sending you a Senna, GTR, Corvette, 911, or Huracan to thrash at your pleasure for 4 days of bromance roadtripping so you can then select a pre-ordained econoshitbox as your winner. Looks like Ferrari, Audi and others were wise to the scam and said no thanks. I predict there will be more next year.

Not quite under 20s but close. Although this might be odd to say I was expecting it to be a little faster. 0-200 n 9.3 is a tad slow compared to the high end Ferrari's/Macs.

Also I just finished reading a thread where they showed the Huracan's run. Someone said that the Huracan was his PCOTY, and Matt responded with:

“This $30,000 car is light, engaging, fun, comes with a stick, and when driven properly will run up the *** of any manner of sports cars on a back road, but to really have fun, you’re gonna need to spend $300,000 on a Lambo,” is not the position we wanted to take.
So I guess cost does play a role in the end. Though the Veloster is the better value I suppose. (maybe?)

There was a white Huracan running Pirelli hot laps at COTA F1 during the Friday practice sessions. That thing had the most awesome engine sound I have heard in years out of a production car. Sounded like a V-12 race engine. LOUD.

Here is the vid of Matt Farah driving the PCOTY.... his enthusiasm or lack thereof v. his very clear enjoyment of the some of those "other" cars is very notable. Saying the car is lovely and making numerous half hearted positive comments about the car, almost as if he is trying to like it more than he really does...… or at the very least, being a bit to "salesy" in his comments.

I also watched the vid of him driving a Huracan and the C8, if these guys were truly looking for a car that stirred their passions for automotive performance either of these two would have easily eclipsed the Hyundai

Not to say I don’t have a blast in manual cars, as I do there as well. I’ll tell you what I don’t have a blast in, FWD cars. Not in the slightest. Haven’t owned one (as a sports car) since my first car which was an Eclipse. Will never own another.
No fun, no skill.

Have to have a stick. And who drives on the track? Look at these supercars, most have less than 10k miles when they are 5 years old. What's with that? A driver can't learn to drive a car with that low mileage. You know they aren't pushing it.

I don't think there were any F1 cars in the Performance Test. But I'll bet the Hyundai wins on cost, fuel mileage, reliability, miles driven, and fun to drive stick shift. And it's street legal to boot.

My guess is that maybe 2% of the posters here could get a F1 car out of the pits and not kill themselves. But fortunately, most of us couldn't fit in the car and thus, save our lives.

If only Porsche were capable of building $30k competitor to the Velociter. They just aren't good enough to do that.

Well, if you ever track yours, be sure to give my 'econobox' a point-by please when I'm riding your *** in the corners.

I'll be instructing at VIR for the upcoming SVT Cobra Club event.

Please be sure to come by and let me know when you are on track.

Put your money where your mouth is.

When I get my Z06 back even better.

I wonder if Road & Track picked the car they picked just to stir up publicity. I also wonder how many people went out and bought that magazine just to read that story. I love performance. The slowest car we own is my wife’s Golf R. A car should be fun to drive and perform. I don’t care about Road & Track. Most of the magazines are lame in my opinion. I much prefer You Tube videos when I’m car shopping.

I agree that C&D and R&T are awful and just a shell of what they were. No Brock, Henry Manney, Warren Weith, extreme car tests? Even that idiot libertarian Bedard and that eltiest Davis were better than this crap.

And I still get then in mail. Stop stop.

But they were totally right about picking the Hyundai. That little 4 cyl Camaro is a nice ride too, better than a 3 series Beemer (TRUE).

Also, it’s a pretty steep rabbit hole: The performance of the veloster is a “fail” to many here, but i bet somewhere there’s a 720s owner chuckling at a c8 fan ripping the veloster for being “slow”.

Also, there’s the price point on the vehicles. If money was no object, the hyper cars from ferrari and mclaren would win every year. Hyper cars not allowed? Fine. Then the ferrari and mclaren would still win every year. The veloster offers a nice legit six speed with a clutch pedal and is probably a lot of fun to wring out while shifting gears. And it’s a boosted engine, most are usually overbuilt meaning you can up the psi if you want more out of it.

Ultimately, i think it was chosen because it represented the most balanced, developed platform for what it is and the price point to enjoy it was probably a consideration as well. Looks like you get a lot for 25 grand. They weren’t trying to sell posters to kids to put on their walls of cars they’ll never be able own on this pick. What’s the old saying: It’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. 0-60 in the veloster is about 5.5 seconds, which i think is still pretty preppy for what it is. You can actually wind this one up and have less worry doing so. Most modern corvettes will land you in county if you stay in it until the top of third gear and get caught.

stupid.

I guess today's journalism dweebs just can't resist a little "social engineering", trying to redefine what sort of car should be acceptable to us to "prevent the world from ending".
