I have to laugh at the comments here (and pretty much in any comparison between cars). Why can't people just take info for what it is, rather than always trying to find an angle to make (their preferred) car appear better than the other? Obviously people here always want to put down a Ford...how many times do we hear "Its too heavy"..."It can't turn"..."put it on a track", blah blah. Now you have 2 cars that are roughly the same price, that get around a track in basically the same time...just in different ways. Kudos to both cars.

The Z51 and above C8s needs carbon fiber wheels as an option, just like this GT500. Even better if they can offer a Carbon Track Pack similar to what this GT500 offers:
"Once we tried the GT500 equipped with the Carbon Fiber Track package, however, it was all over for the street 'Vette. The CFTP Shelby is magic on the racetrack, wearing R-compound Sport Cup 2s, carbon wheels, lower and firmer springs/bars/shocks, a proper wing and hell-yes-they-work aero fitments, and much more. Fire it up, and the Shelby is long gone in a blaze of glory."
Even if the options are expensive, it really helps for these magazine tests and lap time bragging rights. And believe it or not, bragging rights sells cars.

We still have the Z06 and the ZR1 coming. Not a bad showing for pretty much a base car.

Carbon fiber wheels and Pilot Sport cup IIs would make a gigantic difference in any vehicle. Would be cool to have this as a factory option on the Z51.

Where are the lap times? The data? I see none... I see pictures from Pobst's MT track test in the orange C8 and then a separate set of pictures for the Mustang all this was mashed together with different days of testing. A local acquaintance was at VIR for the MT test and the C8 wasn't there.

More evidence and reason to buy a C8. A 495hp car was less than a second behind a 760hp track focused Ford halo car of their series. Folks if this isnt more evidence of how good the base model C8 is then i have no idea of what anyone was expecting.

In other words the track focused GT500 will likely be a better match for a C8 Z06.

Did you read the quote from the article I posted? The 2 cars were even in performance, until they tested the version of the GT500 with the carbon track pack, and that made a huge difference. That was the only variable/difference.

Based on the Ford forum the base GT500 is less than a second faster than a Z51 C8 (I believe with track alignment). The track focused GT500 (CFTP) version is 5 seconds faster than the base GT500 or almost 6 seconds faster than a C8 Z51.
In other words the track focused GT500 will likely be a better match for a C8 Z06.

1. What crappy video editing. The out of car shots don't match the in-car shot locations at all. The section where the GT500 is on the back straight he's clearly slaloming the car back and forth and the video is just sped up. What a crappy job.
2. Holy ****... the C8 Z51 just did a 2:00 on OEM tires! That's just nuts... this is a sub 2:00 far with just Pilot Cup 2s.

Read what I posted. The base GT500 is just under a second faster than a C8 Z51 (magnetic ride). The track focused GT500 will be a full 5-6 seconds faster than a C8 Z51. As it should it’s nearly a $100K car. But per Randy that car is on a whole different level.

Put carbon fiber wheels and PSC2s on the C8 Z51 and it would be a different car too.
