Magnetic Selective Ride Suspension

Did mods ever make this topic a sticky? I see this question weekly or more.

Never had it before. Was sure I wouldn't think it was that great on the C8 but gave it a shot. I was wrong. My base C8 with Mag ride if fantastic. Like owning three different cars in one. Get it. For the money it's a bargain.

Like many have said, I opted for it as well on my non-Z51 HTC. I'm glad I did. I'll never track it but love feeling the difference in the ride the change in suspension offers. If I hadn't, I would have FOMO for it, although I'd likely be happy with the car anyhow. A very refined car, simply amazing.

I’ve never driven a non mag ride C8, but I have a non Z-51 with Mag Ride and I don’t feel any difference unless I’m in track which I never use because it’s way too stiff for the street. Touring and sport feel identical in my opinion.

We ordered mag ride with the Z51 and I did it mainly as I plan on a few long trips in it and want the Caddy highway cruiser and the switch to beast mode when the hammer goes down for some track or spirted driving

Every single thread on this subject goes exactly the same way. It's literally 100s of threads dating back to the C6 era. Opinions are all over the map, and it's not just those who have it vs. those who do not.
Those looking for clarity here will not find it. It is entirely a matter of personal preference and use.

I have a non-Z51 with Mag Ride and love it. Not only do I feel the difference in drive modes driving in a spirited manner on secondary roads the wonderfully controlled ride on the "normal" roads is just super. It's more than the ability to change modes, it is the variable shock damping as you drive in the same mode all the time.

If you look at the 2021 stats only 6% chose FE2 and 26% chose FE1. The biggest percentage were those who ordered z51 and the percentage with z51 and mag ride is the highest. What does this reveal? If you order z51 you should get mag ride. If you get base the Mag ride is really not necessary and even confirmed by someone at Cirocca. Some want to to justify adding it by saying if I'm spending $85k I may as well spend $87k but in reality a base C8 does not need mag ride and you likely wont notice a difference

So, for the OP there is probably little chance to drive a C8 with Mag ride and compare it to one without. It’s in that comparison where the
greatest difference was found for me, back when I purchased my first C6. It just delivered a better ride in all modes. My C7’s were the same
though I did not have it on a few cars that I purchased off the lot. Once you have it, the difference between modes is incremental or between
weather and touring, not noticeable. Really missed it on my ‘19 C7 so I decided to order it on my C8. It hopefully will arrive next week. Will
followup with my personal update then. So is it a must have? Hmm, think its more about personal preference and what you are used to.
GM provides this tid bit of wisdom.
“Addition of a magnetic flux control unit, which “creates a more consistent and more accurate transition between rebound and compression in the dampers, improving the system's ability to sense and control vehicle body movement.”

Again, those who want Z51 SHOULD get MSRC. Those without Z51 really dont need it and there are posters here that have had C8 base non z51 with MSRC that have ordered again and don't add MSRC. It would be helpful if those that add MSRC are doing so b/c they have Z51. Those with base C8's overwhelming don't add MSRC as posted by GM's stats.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but unless you've driven an FE2 equipped C8 you really don't have any basis to support it.

No. It only reveals that other buyers of the base model didn't think they needed it. It reveals nothng about the actual benefits, or the reasons they chose not to get it. One man's opinion at Ciocca (try to spell it right next time) means no more than my opinion, after owning an FE2 equipped car for > 4000 miles.
