Wheel question Poll - Gloss black vs Silver
#21

Your poll may be more about demographics of the user base than wheel options. Those over a certain age likely vote silver and those under black. I think black loses all of the details of the wheel, but I am in the "older" crowd. At least I have moved away from chrome and prefer brushed aluminum.
I also think the very common comments about " black loses all of the details of the wheel," fits this demographic as eyesight among the elderly universally gets weaker and weaker with age.
Still, hopefully, the op doesn't make a decision about wheel colors based on what a small slice of a biased forum would conclude, but would make a choice based on his (her) personal taste, as "personal" makes it your own, whereas consensus makes it everyone else's.

Totally! "Gloss Black is like a new car." The only thing better might be genuine Carbon Fiber wheels, as available on the new Z06 C8.

Two C8 owners, one with a black car, the other dark blue sent the factory wheels out to be chromed. They look amazing on the cars. Sorry don't have pictures as my phone died, new one on the way.

Under 50 years old - black.
From 50 to 71 - silver.
Over 71 - chrome (yes you will have to go aftermarket)
Or go with a bit of both with the Spectra grey and silver wheels like I did:

I did body color accents as well with Silver Tridents. I don’t dislike the black wheels as it does somewhat make the car a little more exotic but just isn’t my personal style. One of those weird people that doesn’t want to totally stand out but don’t want to be a wallflower either

For the most part it depends on the color of the car and of the otherwise black OEM "stuck-on" looking gobble-de-gook. And, for some reason, from the cheapest to the many of the high-dollars cars, all have what otherwise might be identically painted gray wheels. Arrrggh!

Yes, demographics do play a role here. In the C6 section where I knew a large majority of those members and where this topic came up all the time, I once did an analysis based on a large thread about black/chrome wheels, (with over 100 replies). There (where chrome wheels reigned), the analysis showed members preferred chrome over black wheels at a rate of 5:1. And, that fit the C6 demographic as members there over 60 easily outnumbered younger members by at least 5:1.

Case in point for a aluminum brushed wheel. As long as the owner likes the black or silver, it doesn't matter.

I also am getting torch red and chose the cheapest wheels they had. Functionally they all are the same. Maybe I'll buy aftermarket wheels eventually, but I really don't like the tridents better than the standard design. And all black vs silver - I think the car loses definiition if you don't have the contrast of the silver against the black of the tires and the red bodywork. Whatever I would have spent on tridents can go towards a quality set of forged wheels.

Really...........
In 2014, the HRE wheel salesman told us black was a fad. And on the way out. Hmm?

Can't die fast enough for me. Black wheels make a car look like it's heading to the junk yard. There is no contrast between the tire and wheel and it absorbs all light. I just think they're hideous, they don't look "racy" they just look like crap. When I bought my 2007 1098 Ducati it came with black wheels. The day it came home I pulled the wheels and had them painted bright silver, transformed the look of the bike.

I’ve done the black wheels on several of my former (and current) cars. Gloss, Matt, and with polished lips, etc. The issue still is that the wheel design gets lost….in photos and from about 6 feet away. Originally my C8 came with the OEM standard wheels in silver as I knew I was going aftermarket. Sold my OEMs to LA wheel (where you can buy them chromed) and bought what I believe was the best looking, more classic look, but in a silver tone. But there are some nice black wheels out there…..simple in design like 5 spoke, I think is the best as it suffers less of the “sucked into the tire” look. But for me I was done with the black wheel phase, mind you it lasted for 20+ years!
