It would be useful to know if earlier MYs are different. I know at least one reporting no problem here has a 2020. Mine is a recently built '22 built on 3/10/22, and headlights are always on.

Is your entertainment system in night mode when the headlights are on? That might indicate there is something on the sensor. Maybe some protective sticker that hasnt been removed? On my 22 the entertainment system switches to night mode at dusk. I have not explicitly checked the headlights, but I think they are off during the day. I would have noticed in my reflection on the car ahead of me if they were on all the time.
If your entertainment system is in day mode and the headlights are still on during the day something else is likely the problem. Maybe a software bug or a cabling error.

My inside displays remain in bright mode, there is no protective sticker on the sensor, and you can tell the headlights are on by the green headlight lamp indicator on the DIC. If they were turning on and off that green lamp would extinguish when off. It never goes off unless I turn the headlights off manually by moving the stalk switch to the off position, but you have to do that after every engine start cycle because the switch returns to auto mode.

Mine goes on and off, and it can be in full sun, that's how I noticed something wasn't right, seeing the green indicator coming on and off.

My 2020 works correctly, my headlights turn on when I enter my garage.

No problem with my 2020. Looks like a recent production problem.

Here's how the auto headlights are controlled (from the Service Manual):

Automatic Lamp Control
The K9 Body Control Module (BCM) monitors three signal circuits from the S78 Turn Signal/Multifunction Switch. When the turn
signal/multifunction switch is in the AUTO position, the three signal circuits are unaffected (open) and the BCM relies on the B10 Ambient
Light/Sunload Sensor input to determine if headlamps are required or if daytime running lamps will be activated based on outside lighting
conditions. During automatic lamp control, the headlamps will be off during daylight conditions but will turn on when the ambient light sensor
detects low outside light level. The ambient light sensor is a light sensitive transistor that varies the voltage signal to the K9 Body Control
Module (BCM). The BCM provides a 5 volt reference signal circuit 278 and a low reference circuit 407 to the ambient light sensor.
During low light conditions the BCM will request the low beam headlamps ON by sending a serial data message to the K219 Lighting Control
Module. The Lighting Control Module responds by applying pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage to both headlamp low beam control circuits,
illuminating the LED low beam headlamps.
The ambient light sensor is used to monitor outside lighting conditions. The ambient light sensor provides a voltage signal that will vary between 0.2
and 4.9 volts depending on outside lighting conditions. The K9 Body Control Module (BCM) provides signal circuit 278 and low
reference circuit 407 to the ambient light sensor. The BCM monitors the ambient light sensor signal circuit to determine if outside lighting
conditions are correct for either daytime running lamps or automatic lamp control when the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position. In daylight
conditions the BCM will request the daytime running lamps ON through a serial data message to the K219 Lighting Control Module, the
lighting control module responds by applying voltage to the daytime running lamp control circuits. During low light conditions the BCM will request
the low beam headlamps ON through a serial data message to the lighting control module, the lighting control module responds by applying voltage
to the low beam control circuits.

As everyone has stated above I have been noticing the same thing and figured its something that I have not maybe fully understood how it should be working but not as I would think it should. Mine is an 2022 end of March build held up during the week shut down.

Based on the manual posted here it is not working as it should. I have nothing blocking the sensor and have been in full daylight and the headlamps on confirmed by the green icon. I have also been in full sun and shade with them off and running daylight on. This is with it in auto so lately I have noticed the headlights on and for that cycle will just turn the auto off.

My '22 was built a couple of weeks before yours, and I do exactly what you do. Turn them off at the beginning of every drive cycle, otherwise they are always on.

It is interesting that no one with a 2020 is reporting the problem, leading me to believe it is something recent. I've never seen this mentioned on this forum until recently, and now there are two threads on the issue currently running.

Think it has to be a part issue not software related. Seems like it is an more recent issue in the 22's

So as it seems this is possibly affecting very few or say a batch of cars maybe in the first quarter production in 2022? That or a good few just have not noticed it.

I agree, I think it's a bad batch of sensors. Seems like several of us who have chimed in that are experiencing this all had our cars built within the last ~90 days.

I have a 22 HTC TPW was 02/14 and I'm having the same issue. They randomly do what they want. Has nothing to do with how bright it is outside. Looks like you can add me to the list of whatever is going on. 😟

I talked to a Corvette specialist at forum dealer, Criswell, a few days ago and was told they have not seen this issue before. They've serviced hundreds of C8s and have seen just about everything by now.

It's not worth it to me to take it in just for that, but I'll have them look at it at first oil and transmission service. Mine never go off, but I just turn them off manually after starting the car if it is a bright clear day.
