Have not run into someone who is either that jealous or just hateful. Probably best to just laugh it off, walk away or just say, thanks for your opinion.

Owned Corvettes for about 45 years and don't recall anyone ever uttering a negative comment. But do know a few Corvette owners who seem to go out of their way to draw attention to themselves which sometimes opens themselves up to criticism.
One example, a guy who will park his C7 Z06 directly in front of a restaurant or club as opposed to in a parking space like everyone else.

When I purchased my first Corvette (a new C6), my co-worker commented, that he would NEVER buy a Corvette, as it was a "stupid" car to spend one's money on. Later that day, I took him to lunch in the 'Vette. On the way back he said, "Let's see how fast this thing will go". So I buried the gas pedal into the floor and looked over at my friend. He was both terrified and wearing a smile bigger than Jack Nicholson playing the Joker.
He never brought up my "stupid" purchase again....

I agree with this. I have owned cars all my life that would fit into the car category a C8 does and I've never received comments like the OP describes...ever. I've also seen owners of cars like these who can be total douche bags at times and they elicit negative comments in those times. There are two sides to stories like these and we're hearing one of them. To the OP, just think about how you're coming across to others when you find these comments coming. What did you do/say first? Some don't realize they're coming across this way.

Honestly it’s best to avoid any negative comments from strangers. They are just baiting you for trouble.
On a few occasions I’ve said …it’s nothing special it’s just a Chevy and doesn’t even have a back seat….
or why spend $80k on that….. I could not afford a pick up truck.
Throws them off a little, you see them thinking and really have no response.

Only one acquaintance that I know. When I told him that I was ordering a C8. He said the C8 is trying to look like a fake Ferrari, a midlife crisis car (it is for me though, hahah) , it was trying too hard. He was even trying to guess that I was going to buy torch red too. He was basically going on a rant. haha. I just laughed it off as he was still working on his civic project car for over 15 years. It's still not done and just sits there and is rotting away.

Well, if that's the case, extreme envy is a powerful vice too. I imagine for someone who is burning inside BC you have it and they don't, they can blurt out something rude unsolicited. Just never experienced it myself.

I wouldn't call it hate, but I get a ton of people revving their cars next to my Corvette. Heck, even motorcycles...

In case you haven’t noticed, the world is full of idiots. Who cares what people think, get in it a drive on with a smile. I worked my whole life to scrape up enough money to buy my first NEW vette and could care less what anyone thinks, my friends are supportive and that’s what matters.

I overheard someone saying a car like the C8 is for someone going through a mid-life crisis. I just ignored him and moved on. It might be true in some cases but many people just don't understand the attraction to performance cars.

^^^^^ Right here in this forum, right now, there is a thread going where guys are "talking trash" about the Z51 package, "forcing" owners (who swallowed troll-bait) to defend their decisions.
And similar threads about almost any option, including color choice, go on all the time. And that is among us "Corvette Fans".
So who cares what random strangers think? If you bought your car to please 100% of the people you meet, you made a mistake.
Thicken your skin a bit and move on.

Hmm. Didn't start in mid-life, did not feel like a crisis, and it seems to go on for long, long time. Here's my first 'vette, a 1976, photo is circa 1985, so I was 30 something then. That's me next to the burgundy '76. I had a total of 4 Corvettes, that last acquisition being the 2021 C8.

I live in a rural area where most people buy pickup trucks because they need them. I have one too. I drive it to the two non profits where I volunteer because I’ve heard from people there that I like to “flaunt my wealth” yet I’m the person they want to keep their books and finances in order.
I don’t drive my C8 places where I know people will make those comments. My neighbors - all blue collar types or retired - love it. In fact I’ve got one neighbor that I owe a ride in it when my knee replacement surgery is over and I can drive it again.
People make choices in life. Some good, some bad. I find the people who tend to make those comments make or made bad choices.

People tend to only see the end result and make judgments. They don't see the sacrifices, the hard work, and the risks that were taken to achieve in life.
In sales and in life, it's beneficial to sell from a place of abundance rather than a scarcity mindset. It's always easy to see the folks who have lived their lives in a scarcity mindset. They tend to be highly critical of those who have had success; have small limiting ideas, and an appearance that screams lowest common denominator.
