I've been told the same for the last two years. People have actually gotten angry with me when they find out mine has been through an automatic car wash that is not touchless.
I have bad knees and a herniated disc so I just cant wash mine by hand very comfortably,
To me I'm very happy with the paint on mine with 30,000kms and hundreds of automatic washes. To each their own I say!

Luckily I have a touchless car wash close to my house. I don't think I would ever take mine through a car wash with big spinning brushes. Some people say the touchless is bad for your paint and ceramic coating due to harsh chemicals...but so far after a year and a half, I don't see anything negative.

And as we all know....a C8 is a pain in the *** to hand wash.

Car wash chemical are super harsh.

Short term issue is that they will strip your wax and can react with Aluminum wheels.

Long term issue (only if you plan to keep you car 5+ years) is that the chemical will prematurely age rubber components and plastic pieces.

Some have eyesight much better than others, and some have much higher standards than others when it comes to paint appearance. I know that on the 850 mile drive home with my new BMW, by the time I got home there were already many very minute marks in the paint on the front end & hood and one decent chip. I'd guess 99%+ of people wouldn't notice them, but I do. Thankfully the Xpel ppf essentially covers them up now, but over time the front end will just accummulate more if it weren't protected. I also know that we received an extra $2,000 on my wife's trade-in recently because it had Xpel ppf & the vehicle's paint looked brand new after 50k miles. Considering we paid only $1,600 for the Xpel, it more than paid for itself when we got rid of the vehicle. YMMV.

That\'s actually pretty funny- Its not eyesight its choices. If you are OCD about it im sure you'll find fault with my finish- actually you'll find fault with any finish. My eyesight is fine and I can see microscopic imperfections at work where it matters- that's where I chose to be OCD. The rest, like my paint under fluorescent lighting, isnt really that important- standards in regard to your paint are a personal choice mattering not to the "other guy"

I love how Corvette owners are so proud of doing something that the manufacturer says not to do, and even goes so far as to put a tag in new cars saying don't do it.

Ya'll are hilarious.

It also said to break the car in - im sure not just a few explored beyond the required parameters before 500 miles-

I drink coffee - they put a warning on the box-do you still drink it? - it might be hot and burn your tongue

I've read this posted before, but reading it again doesn't make it any more true or less silly. There is nothing hard about hand washing a C8 relative to other cars.

True, which again begs the question, why did you start this thread in the first place, assuming that your personal standards in regard to your paint would matter to "other guys"?

But the hand car wash treatment is different... No for the auto wash... yes to a hand wash/wax.. Here in SW Florida water is too hard if not treated to wash at your home garden hose.. so a had car wash is you choice... or when it's a hard shower, backing your Vette out of the garage for a good rinse. By the way I use Mcquire's hybrid Ceramic wax. On Mustang GT Velocity Blue, people thought I had a custome paint job... along with the GT stripes..

So the new C8 is so special that it eclipse all other Corvetts but cannot go thru a car wash?
I have driven my C3 for hundreds of miles in the rain traveling cross country, yes I have stopped at a brushless car wash (not driving a dirty Corvette when away from home if don't have to) and the only thing that went wrong I got a little wet too but the car did not melt or fail going down the road afterwards

I am kind of curious why you chose to post about it, though, like it's a badge of honor or something?
There are many, many posts on CF (all forums) that defy rational reasoning.

I posted the pictures as some time ago someone said they needed to see pictures in the sun so it would show the damage I did to my finish. That day I noted how good the paint looked -TO ME- and decided to post photos as requested.

The comments I see here I would expect on a Ferrari board and frankly never encountered this behavior on the porsche board - I can say its amusing to poke the bear
