Default Ug, Bowling Green plant closed next weeK

I heard the plant was shutting down next week due to part shortages. I reached out to Shane at the museum and he confirmed it will be closed.

LOL …. Figures as my 2/27 TPW is approaching! No worries though since I’ll be in Hawaii until 22nd of March and wouldn’t be able to get to the museum for pick up right away. Even if it shifts one week the timing is better for me. Stinks for a lot of people though.

My car finished this past Monday, Feb 13th. I sure hope it is on a truck and out of that factory before the shutdown!

Bummer for folks that were to be built next week...............

completed cars typically still ship out during the shutdown.... the parts only prevent the build process, not other areas. Should be good!

Maybe GM should focus on what they already have ordered and can't fulfill vs. continually releasing more models taking even more orders... Even Ford finally wised up and is changing things re: Broncos. The entire C8 ordering process has turned into a debacle; they could learn a lot from FCA and how their custom orders are handled to be honest.

I was happy (I received notification this morning that I reached 3400 with TPW of 2/20) and then I was sad (I received notification that the plant will be shutdown that week.) Some named Tom said the waiting is the hardest part.

That sucks. I finally get my order number and now another delay. Oh well have waited 15 mos already, so another week shouldn't make a big difference.

The C8 ordering process has actually gone quite smoothly for me with MacMulkin. It's the GM delivery process that is the challenge. You can reduce the number of variants you offer therefore having more parts in common, but what happens if the common parts have a shortage? The world and supply chain and labor haven't been the same since Covid. There hasn't been a return to pre-Covid normal. Around here, you can go to a restaurant one week and have a great experience and go again the next and you won't even recognize the restaurant it is so bad. Just one example. As a consumer, I can tell you that in general goods and services aren't what they used to be. As someone who spent a large part of my career in manufacturing and supply chain, I can comprehend why companies still face challenges. There is a tradeoff using a single source supplier and using more than one source. More volume gives you more leverage with the supplier, but if they can't deliver then your plant has to shut down. If you have more than one supplier, you don't have as much volume leverage and there is no guarantee that you can flip a switch and get more from supplier B when supplier A can't deliver. I'm not sure what the standard lead times are anymore but they were well over a year during Covid for internet gateways and routers that ISP's use when I was in that business. Many of the components were used in the auto industry as well. All in all, it is a complex challenge.

My TPW was 2/6, but it looks like my build date is Thursday (tomorrow)… somehow I feel like I’m going to get delayed. UGGGGGG

Seems about every 2-3 months they have to shut down for a parts shortage.

Its surprising that at this point in production their supply chain isn't a little more robust. We all learned single sourcing was problematic in 2020, though three years later its crazy its still happening.

Tough break for those that may have been scheduled to have their car built next week. At some point you would figure the parts shortages would end.

We’ve waited a long time. Another week won’t hurt, guys. You’ll have it soon enough.

TPW of 2/20 after already waiting 21mos. Of course! I’ve gotten very good at being patient though. Take your time BGA, just make her perfect…

Coupe #25930 was to be built Monday... DAMN! Now will prob have to reschedule my museum delivery on March 11. So many other things that NOW have to be re-scheduled. Work, Plant tour, Delivery, Chevrolet service to install wheels and rotors, Stripe install, Ceramic and PPF install... THIS SUCKS BAD!

Had to reschedule my delivery due to weather (flights cancelled due to winter storm), and he had availability Tues-Sat of next week with no mention of the plant being closed. We ended up rescheduling from tomorrow to next Friday.

Oh ... come on.

The plant has been up and running, shut down, up and running, shut down, for various reasons varying from parts shortages to floods and tornadoes, since C8 production began. And BG Assembly has still managed to produce almost 100,000 cars in that period. In 2022, there were three shutdowns from the time my order went to 3000 to final assembly on the second to last day of 2022 production. So I guess I had to wait an extra three weeks or thereabouts. Guess what? I lived through it, and I have a fine, well-made car that is exactly what I ordered. (And wanted.)

Those effected will get through it too.

I’m 25664, should be built today… will it get stuck in BG?
