FYI. First recall that's showed for me. 2023 2LT. I've never allowed an OTA so haven't experienced the issue that others have. Recommend folks check and see if they are affected. It showed up within the last couple of weeks.

GM Program #
N242435630
Status
Incomplete
Description
Certain model years and vehicle makes noted in the table above may have a condition where the battery is at risk for a drain following an over-the-air update.
Repair Description
Dealers are to reprogram the serial data gateway module.
I'm at the dealer now for an oil change and DCT filter. They informed me there was an open recall that came out so I guess I'm one of the first to get the update.
My 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X got that recall notice on the app 9-19-24 I have not addressed it yet. My truck is currently in a body shop. My dumb self jack knifed a utility trailer with a SXS on it using the stupid cameras to back up in the dark. I'll have my truck back friday and will call dealership about it later.
No such recall yet on my 2024 Corvette so this must be 2023 model year GM vehicles.
What is a Serial Gateway Modul and what does it do?
Summary from GM TechLink:
The Serial Data Gateway Module functions as a gateway to isolate the secure networks on the vehicle from unsecured networks. Isolating primary networks helps ensure advanced driver assistance systems and active safety features, such as enhanced collision avoidance, can all operate in conjunction with each other.
Google search AI summary:
A serial data gateway module in a vehicle performs multiple functions, including:
Isolating secure networks
The module acts as a firewall to protect the vehicle's secure networks from unsecured ones. This helps ensure that safety features and advanced driver assistance systems can work together.
Transmitting data
The module transmits data between different bus systems, such as the engine compartment bus, interior bus, and optical bus. It also evaluates the data and coordinates between the systems.
Routing signals
The module translates and routes signals between functional domains in the vehicle that share data, such as the powertrain, chassis, and safety systems.
Bridging modules
The module can help connect multiple modules as systems transition to newer technologies and communication buses.
I just got that same "recall" notification, also, for my late July 2023 build C8. I read through the equivalent/similar pdf reprogramming document for the trucks and Cadillac suvs. There were several "cautions" throughout that document for the technician doing the update. Several of the those cautions seemed as if they could cause more problems than those being solved, primarily regarding being sure the VIN numbers matched up with the programmer at each step, and if not matched, it could cause module damage, which I interpreted (I'm not an expert) as it could "brick" the module or possibly the car. My monthly diagnostics report says all of my vehicles software is "up-to-date" with the last update being October 12, 2023, which seems consistent with others that have mid/late 2023 build dates. On the fence whether I want my local dealer messing with this reprogramming, or not. Bulletin says this particular "customer satisfaction program" expires August 31, 2026 so I guess I have a while to think about it, and to see how it works out for others who have the reprogramming done. If things go bad during someone's reprogramming, I'm pretty sure we will read about it here on this forum.
Just got home and everything was fine. Drive home from Ciocca is about 1h45m and ~80 miles. Took 2.5 hours to do an oil and filter change, DCT filter change, alignment, and the software update.
I've read that the module as is works but if there is a long transmission it can drain your battery. The update keeps this from happening as I understand it. Not something I'd run to the dealership for but if there for something else they can do this....
Do the OTA software updates run automatically without any user prompts? I'm under the assumption that this is the case and that's why it's advisable to leave a battery tender connected, whenever possible.

It will download in the background if you have that option selected. However it won't install the update without your approval.
I had an oil change and DCT filter flush/change yesterday as well, and this recall came up for my 2023 Stingray. The paperwork notes it to be a recall, but it sounds more like just another software update. Hopefully, this one doesn’t screw anything up.
