Working on a C8 that has had numerous aftermarket engine bay covers installed with 3M 3614 double sided tape. The tape leaves a considerable amount of residue that needs to come off. We have tried Goof Off, WD-40 Alcohol, and other usual adhesive removers with limited success.. Is there an industrial remover that is safe for the bare composite in the engine bay area that we can try? Thanks!
Curious as to why the removal. Did it not look good? Is it defective? Any before pics? May save the rest of us the same aggravation.
The current owner did not like the theme and color combo the previous owner had installed. It was a poor DIY project and the covers needs to come off. Some of the pieces are broken and unusable.
After doing some homework, I called 3M customer service and the sent me to the automotive customer service. the 3M recommendation was Adhesive remove 49048 which is an industrial citrus-based remover. The 3M tech said 49048 is the most powerful remover they have and still safe for paint and other finished surfaces. Available from numerous sources for around $40 to $50 for an 18 oz spray can. I have a partial can of 3M 03618 that I will try first. Thanks to all. Hopefully this will assist other members in the future with this situation.
I've used 03618 and found it lacking on tape holding on an emblem. Goo Gone is citrus based and worked better for me. I'd try it before spending the $$ on the 49048.
