I missed the email warning of scammed stealing our profile information and private messaging us. I got scammed yesterday for $135 for a C8 car cover. Its my own fault honestly when he wanted payment first thru CashAp then PayPal as Friends & Family. I've warned people hundreds of times to never send money that way but yesterday didn't listen to my own advice.
******* goes by different names. Dayne Yarbrough, Delvin Permenter, JCMansell and probably more. Be smarter than me and also protect your passwords and change regularly. My C8Z06 left the plant this morning. Excited is an understatement. My 25th Corvette.
and who knows what else. Beware. Im old enough to know better but lesson learned.
Yup...one guy pmd me on an item I was interested in then sent me a text....he must have found my phone number on an old thread...spotted it a mile away though luckily
Same here........he wanted me to set up the Cashapp, which I had no issue doing, but then he kept asking me if it was set up yet. Pretty obviously suspicious. Loser of the highest order..........
I do give credit to the moderators here. Almost immediately I got a notification on PM that I was likely contacted by a scammer......
I only do PayPal, I pay the 3% fee for “good” and write down exact item being purchased, so if it’s a no show, I’d file claim and get money back. Or split the 3% fee. Way worth it
Here’s the way scammer’s are working around here. They see a for sale ad and then they see who said they replied with a PM. They then PM that person with a very basic message that says to text them about whatever product is being sold. The scammer is hoping the person receiving the PM doesn’t notice the sender is not the same as the OP of the for sale thread to begin with.
I ALMOST got taken by a scammer, but things didn’t add up after we began texting, so no money was exchanged. I’ve also had it happen in 2 of my for sale adds, this being the most recent. See if this scenario sounds familiar:
Some of them are so obvious with 1 or 2 posts or have been a member for a day or so.
That is why I only buy from someone who has been a member for years and hundreds of post. I know that may be an excessive bar to have but that’s my policy.
Delvin got me too…almost. He kept insisting on PayPal Friends and Family. Lucky I didn’t agree.
Did standard PayPal transaction and reported him as a scammer. PayPal is issuing a full refund.
Make sure you utilize all the protections you can when making online purchases!
I believe the user @69cprvette is a scammer as well as they are using the same phone number mentioned in this thread. The account has only been active for a few days with strange replies. The account has been reported.
I put a FS thread up and they PM'd me their phone number, then offered to sell me a Borg Motorsports bushing kit for $100 more than it's listed for new. When I told him that I was not interested in the "standard" kit but rather the "premium" he told me that his friend has one and gave me his number.
Very clear scammer behavior. I can produce screenshot if necessary, they're quite humorous really. The two phone numbers associated with this person are:
5035004609
7027750443
Just doing a following up. This appears to be a big time scam. I spoke with the person who answered the phone. He said the address was correct but come to find by confirmation from a fellow member the address is a home residence not a shop. Plus the scammer was living in North Carolina or South can't recall.
Im not sure you’re whole situation obviously, but I’ve actually sold a Targa top to edgyvette and everything was great. Good guy, so it’s entirely possible someone was posing as him?
Not my business obviously but don’t want him to get a bad reputation
