I have no problem with Chevy offering both options to buyers, but I feel the rear mid-engine layout will be way more expensive than the current design. Unless the price is reasonable, my option would be the current design.
continue to have a lot of comments so lets see what you think
would you rather a mid eng or stay front eng. corvette
I see no reason for a ME Vette. The reason the Corvette is what it is is because they are affordable, economical, comfortable and well designed. Most do not buy for racing.
Dash-to-Axle (ratio)
The critical relationship between front wheel centers and the windshield base. The most notable differences can be seen between cars with front-engine, front-wheel drive layout and front mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout: the former tend to have longer front overhangs with a smaller dash-to-axle ratios, while the latter have shorter front overhangs with much greater dash-to-axle. Most so called premium vehicles (equipped with rear wheel drive) feature a relatively long dash-to-axle ratio.

What the heck does that ratio matter? Might as well make a radio to rear spoiler ratio too.
Did you see the Porche 911 on Gas Monkey Garage ? They shoved an LS motor into a 911 ! And it goes like stink and apparently handles real good too.... maybe a REAR engine to truly compete with the 911 !
A mid engine C8 would have wonderful balance... sure at the cost of interior space but it is a sports car after all.
I say, build BOTH, the entry level C7 "FM" and then the C8 option "MR"
Just shorten the torque tube and your good to go.

For what it's worth, Tadge is on record as stating that "the list price would increase by no more than $5000".
You're essentially talking out of your rear here. The Caymen is a mid the 911 is rear yes I know that and both are smaller than the vets hence my point. A mid engine corvette could be fantastic and an awd system easily can fit in any car once engineered correctly. Plenty of smaller cars or similar sized cars than the corvette have awd.
I believe the additional cost of a ME Corvette will have negative results with sales. Those, for whom money is no object, or for those who race their Vettes, may purchase the ME just for the neighborhood "big *****" effect. As it is now, the current C7 was affordable enough, for folks like me, to be able to enjoy this small passion in life. Never thought I would purchase a new C7 but a new pickup truck can cost as much or more than what I paid for my C7. For me, a substantial cost increase, 5-10k dollars (and I think it will be more than that), to purchase a ME Corvette would be a game changer.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
