While the targeted buyer will change to a younger generation as you suggest, the basic plan for Corvette is etched in stone. If a mid-engine is the only platform for the future, then it will be priced somewhere around $60K to start. Maybe a two platform marketing plan is in the future. Maybe a two marque, two car plan is in the future, but Corvette will still be the more affordable high performance vehicle that's a thorn in every high priced performance cars marketing plan.
Was told yesterday by a salesperson that works for a major Corvette dealer that advertise on this board, that the base price will probably start at $120,000 and even at that price there is a waiting list to purchase the C8 and expect sales volume to be similar to the C7 in the first several years after the introduction. So you may be disappointed if the base price is twice the $60K your stating. Actually I hope the $120,000 is incorrect because that takes me out of the possibility of purchasing one.

Sounds like your “salesman” is attempting to set the hook on you for a huge ADM...lol.

I think it would be a smashing success if the brought the avg down below 55.

Let's face it not many are in their 30rds or 40rds can afford a 80k plus toy.

Yes their are some but many are still putting kids through college or paying off a mortgage.

I also don't think you can look at 60k and get the average sale price.

I think it's probably closer to 80k when avg. out on new Corvette sale.

That still a good chunk of change for what to most if us is a toy.

And many who can afford it in that demographic aren't interested in sports cars. For example if you should ever ride by the parking lots for Google or Facebook, you won't find any Corvettes, and most of these young high tech workers could easily afford a $70K car.

Most Corvette performance events have to invite owners of other marques to participate since there aren't enough Corvette owners interested in participating. They are too afraid of getting their engine compartment dirty, getting dirt on their wheels and stones in their tire treads.

Heaven forbid if anybody asks them to rev the engine up while in any gear as the car might actually go fast.

How many Corvette clubs have any sort of a performance event? Not many and they are few and far between. Most of them are meet and eat clubs that think they are busy when they run a couple of car shows each year and participate in cruises around the country side.

At 75 I find myself one of the oldest of the performance oriented Corvette owners, although I do know a few that are up to 5 years older. I still like running 150 mph accelerating up a long straight and feeling the cornering prowess of the car.

I still believe in Show and Go where you are precluded from showing your car anywhere unless you can whip out some sort of documentation that shows you actually drove it hard on a road course, autocross course or a drag strip. That is the heritage I picked up from my predecessors.

Bill
At 74 I had my SLK55 AMG at Road Atlanta for 20 laps and turned 155 on the back straight. At 75 it was my silver 2012 slightly modified C6, and it did 162. Had to fabricate a roll bar for that one. Speeds were radar clocked. I'm 77 now and have already made plans to take my F-Type R there this summer, and hope to set a new personal speed record.

BTW, back in the day when I was very active on the Autocross scene, the Corvette Club had by far the best and highest speed events. Some even used a road course or at least part of one. They also sponsored a very high speed hill climb.

78 in December. While there are many of us in the age group who still enjoy using our cars for what they were designed for we are a small percentage of a small percentage who either buy or build performance cars.

Don't think the C8 will be packing in the millennials but hope more people in their 50's who have the buying power for an $70K car but were not interested in the Front engine body style of the C7 Corvette will take a look at the new car. Think the overall "look" of the car is more important to a lot of people that the actual raw performance. Have to think the ME Ferrari/Lamborghini "Exotic" look of the C8 will be a big plus in marketing the car.
