Default Blast from the Past

Corvette Fans - there is a great article in the Octane Magazine published this month, (#176). On page 152, the article is called "Another Place, Another Time". It reports on a mid-engine Corvette prototype that is still running in Europe. It is a 1971-vintage "two rotor" Wankel engined sports car in scarlet red paint. It is priceless and beautiful - it still looks pretty good, 47 years after GM Design and Pininfarina crafted its mid-engine body and chassis.

The ME C8 will owe something to this car - I think we will all be very pleased with the result.

The 2-rotor was a good looking small concept Corvette shown on the show circuit around 73-74. As I recall it was Italian bodied and built on a Porsche 914 chassis to showcase GM’s experimental rotary engine.

The front and rear long overhangs do begin to date the 2 rotor...

Tom Falconer owns the car today and was in the process looking for a correct 2 rotor engine for the car.

If you squint a bit and imagine a proper "Kamm-back" design, the C8 comes into focus. Note the location of the rear vent - low and carved out of the passenger door. There are a lot of hints here on what we may be looking at in 2019. Remember, the GM Design guys in Warren, MI keep files on everything they have done in the past, and this car as well as this one (see below) are icons.

Default Cerv III

The side scoops on the new “ZERV” car appear to be reminiscent of those on the Cerv III.

* the curved outline of those scoops is visible through the camo and gaps in a few of the spy shots.

Yes I think you are right - the CERV side inlets may be a real clue to what the C8 will use. I only hope they don't do something as hideous as those huge vents that turned the gorgeous Ferrari 458 Italia into the ugly duckling 488.

The curving side scoop design also appeared on the CERV III’s predecessor, the Corvette Indy
