Default C8 Concerns

I have a 2014 C7 3lt and love the car for many reasons. Here are my concerns. One of the things I love about my C7 is that it's very functional as a sports car and as a great car to take to the grocery store or go on vacation. In other words I love having the amount of storage that the C7 offers. It's one of the reasons I never wanted a convertible. With the C8 I would think that the engine is going to take up all the rear storage space and then I read that under the front hood will house lots of cooling exchanges. Does anyone have the skinny on storage in the new C8?

The only other concern is that having the engine in the rear might introduce more heat and noise in the cockpit. Is this correct?

My wife and I took a trip from just south of Memphis to the Grand Canyon and back in a Cayman without a problem. We didn't really skimp on what we took (at least she didn't) and we didn't mail stuff ahead or have to buy things on the way. Considering its size I can't see what's coming from Chevrolet not being able to handle at least as much stuff.. front and rear

Change is hard for some to accept.....I get it. But I think the C8 is going to be very exciting for the vast majority of people.

GM knows this. I suspect it will have plenty of storage room.

I'm willing to bet the design/engineering team has anticipated every legacy owners' need for gobs of storage. Would not be surprised if there is some neat packaging in the nose and a ton of storage aft of the engine. While less space than C7/6/5, have a look below at how Honda packaged a good amount of storage in the new NSX. I'm willing to bet without the hybrid powertrain up front, they would have a good amount of front storage, too.

And if you notice in some of the spy shots with the engine lid raised, it extends all the way across the rear, likely meaning we'll get trunk full width similar to the C7/6/5 convertibles:

Basically, we should probably all save the angst until we know more of what's really in store.

I realize everyone has different opinions, but the need for so much storage space irks me. I have a feeling the design is compromised to accommodate the desire for such a huge amount of storage. I really don't get it. It's a damn performance car, not an SUV.

I too am looking forward to seeing the trunk space in the C8 , as I use my C6 convertible as a touring car, taking 2 to 3 week trips.

I believe that the design is done, it is what it is, and I will adjust my packing to use whatever space that GM gives me. I also believe that GM will do their best to satisfy their customer base and the Corvette tradition, so I am not worried about space, cost, maintenance, or performance of a C8.

I had a Ferrari F430 before my C7 Z06. There was ample trunk space upfront for a weekend trip for two. I also took the car grocery shopping once and again had plenty of room for several bags of food. As for noise, the firewall between the cockpit and engine compartment offers plenty of noise reduction. I found the Ferrari to be very comfortable sound wise in the interior and I had aftermarket headers and exhaust on my car. My Z06 coupe has more road noise. If you want to see a mid-engine car with almost zero storage, go look at a new BMW i8. I think the C8 will have what we all need and then some. Anxiously awaiting as I will get one but not first year.

I trust Maximum Bob, his saying recently (the second time he has noted this over the years ), that GM has solved the ME sports car cargo space issue.

Oh come on...Lutz doesn't know anything....but some of our members have ALL THE ANSWERS.

The interesting thing is the compromises that should take place between design and engineering and marketing....all of which are vital to make a viable product.
When you let the designer do it all, you end up with...The Fisker Karma. Probably the BEST looking 4 door in history....with 6.9 cubic feet of trunk (!!!) and a back seat suitable for the same size kids that fit in a Camaro back seat.

"Oh look! Just because company A makes a ME Car B that has C amount of storage space, the C8 MUST have same or more, right?"

FFS.

The Cayman is a flat 6 (or turbo flat 4). Those engines are compact, flat, and low and allow the Cayman some additional storage space above the engine compartment. The Acura is a turbocharged small capacity V6. with electric powertrain to boot.

Apples and oranges people. I can show you just as many mid-engine V-8s that has the storage capacity of a small briefcase. Just go to Doug DeMuro's youtube page and see some of his exotic car reviews and laugh at how "practical" most ME cars with decent displacement engine with more than 8 cylinders are.

People. The C8 having the same or even remotely close to the coupe version of the C7 in terms of storage is a PIPE DREAM. At most it'll have same or slightly more storage space than the C7 convertible with the top down.

Maybe they will put a really small engine in it in order to have adequate room for storage.

relax, take a deep breath. A couple more months and we will find out probably at the detroit show come january ...

compromise is part of life. C7 owners can justify keeping their beautiful large hatchback cars for their greater storage space as a rational path of sports car ownership and hold their heads up high.

I like the large trunk space of the front engine corvette as I use each of my past three corvette coupes as daily drivers.

that saidi dont see losing a little utility to obtain an entirely new driving experience from the rear mid engine corvette.

how much of a loss in utility remains to be seen.

life is full of changes and some people can adapt, want to or adapt or not...

for every person who refuses to adapt..for the added or rather new look and driving experience there are usually three new buyers ready willing and able to ...

time marches on and when it comes time to buy a new sports car...buyers can decide whats best for them.

sports cars in general are by their very nature filled with compromises.

i owned a turbocharged lancia scorpion back in the late 1970s, early 1980s and I think close to the 1990s and its front trunk was huge.

That NSX trunk actually looks like MORE space than the convertible C7 and C6. First I've seen of that pic. Always a downside to that space tho (extra weight and length, overhang). Oh well....looks good to me if Corvette C8 accomplishes space.

A lot of people use it as a Grand Turismo and only a very few people track their Vettes. The idea that the C7 vert does NOT have enough storage space is really not true at all, so if the C8 has as much space as the C7 vert, I think we'll be okay. People used to the C7 hatchback may have to swap out some luggage, but there's no real reason people need to freak out because there will probably be less storage than that humungous cavern that exists in the hatchback. Really way too early to be worried about it.

about the hottest mid-engine car going is the 720s. it has run in the high 9's in the 1/4 and is beating most everything out there, including the 100 Tesla and demon. some of the reviews say good things about interior space, including storage. they seem smaller to me when parked next to my Z06. maybe interior volume is not as small as the exterior looks. if the C8 can equal the storage space inside of the McClaren, maybe buyers and testers won't have a lot of complaints.

equaling or bettering the 720 performance may be tougher. it is unlikely that i would spend 340k for the McClaren vs 170k for the C8 even if it performs better. the boosted C8 will have to outperform most of the other supercars for me to buy it, but i am confident that it will and loyal to brand, just not blindly.
