Keep it as light as possible. Every new piece of tech adds weight.

 

My wish list: No cylinder deactivation b.s., No stop/start b.s., no bent rim b.s., no GDI ..... B.S.

Indeed. Power seats for example add alot of weight - a good set of manual seat adjusters is fine - many single driver cars set their seat position one time, and never use them again for the life of the car, but still carry around that weight. This is supposed to be a sports car. The electronics stuff adds no weight, you can add sensors and software all day to the car with no impact.

Don't make everyone's favorite gizmo standard. Let buyers configure the car a la carte. That also promotes modular design, which is a godsend for maintenance and modification down the road.

 

I definitely hope the HUD is top notch and more advanced than the unit that's in the C7. Also, unpopular opinion, but I really want a cool digital dash. Something reminiscent of the Ford GT is cool with me.

 

Or, auto-retract on ignition shut down.

This is a request for all GM cars:

A GM app store in which we can buy GM-approved instrument cluster and HUD skins (UI/UX Themes) developed by third parties. This would enable world class graphics and displays that can be customized to show data from any PID.

I'll bet that GM would make a lot of money on such a store. They could also sell apps for the infotainment computer, everything from navigation to music to crowd-sourced police scanner apps that require only a tap on the screen to register speed trap locations. Imagine a police scanner app that sets off an audio/visual alarm on the speedometer and HUD whenever one approaches a speed trap. Since it's an easily bought and downloaded app there should be a critical mass of data within a few months.

The key is to offer this on every GM vehicle so as to maximize the customer base for developers. If the GM App Store is only available on a few vehicles then there won't be enough developer interest. GM will need over the air update capability for such an App Store, so they may as well include OTA updates to the car's firmware. No more wasted time at dealerships while we pay for firmware patches or updated calibrations.

The Corvette MRC calibrations are another example of how such an app store would function. A Corvette owner could purchase calibrations specific to individual tracks, netting GM more profits while Corvette owners get an incredibly cool and useful feature. GPS integration could even have the App Store alert the driver to all the apps available for a specific race track or even roads in a particular region. Canyon carver calibrations? Buy them as you approach the canyon!

 

The only item GM specific I'd cyl deactivation. Everything else is going to be standard on every car very soon. You can thank CAFE.

 

Interesting idea! The big hurdle I see with this (and why I don't see this happening), is that manufacturers spend tons of R&D on the placement of the control and gauges, ease of access, line of sight, and potential for distraction. The cost of "GM-approved", as in truly GM tested as if it were their own, layouts would be huge. This is primarily due to liability reasons, but also ergonomics. As cool as I think it would be, I just can't see a US-based manufacturer allowing for third-parties to create dash layouts. I hope I'm wrong though.

 

Good points. The alternative is for GM to hire better interior designers, but that's about as likely as an app store.

 

And, throw in an integrated radar detector with warnings in the HUD.

Also, exterior facing videos cameras.

ALSO, I want to be able to take the car to the dealer for any service, and, not have to be concerned about anyone joy-riding in it. So… it needs some sorta service/valet mode, which has the capability to limit speed, RPMs, and, prevent the driver from changing out of “Wet” mode.

 

 

Really??? F-Types' mirrors automatically retract when you lock the car (as does my '16 Kia-lol). Speaking of mirrors, how about the inside rear view mirror with auto positioning tied in with the seats with each driver position. Every time my wife drives and the when I drive, I'm constantly have to correct the rear view mirror so I can see out of it. Seems like this is one that fell thru the cracks!

 

SOLUTION: Just keep adding the proportional amount of hp to compensate for any additional weight added. Simple, right? lol
