For the 30 or so Corvettes which go to Lime Rock, sure, they might be excited to see something new. As an observation, I went to LRMP for a race about a decade ago. the Corvette Corral was beside the Porsche parking. They had 3 times the cars, and most of theirs looked "driven". Many were with roll bars/cages, etc. The Corvettes. Lawn chairs and wax bottles. Yawn.

My, how opinions vary as do recollections of history. I went to my first NE GRAN PRIX at Lime Rock 12 years ago and had a great time with a packed Corvette Corral. I went with a group of 7 other Corvettes from the Lakes Region Corvette Club in NH. We had to be at Lime Rock by 8:00 AM in order to be one of the first 100 Corvettes to sign up for the “Parade Lap”. We barely made the list so I know for a fact that there were over 100 Corvettes at the Corral. All the Big Wigs from Corvette were there and along with the drivers, Michelin, and Mobile entertained and thanked the packed Corral tent of Corvette afecianados for their attendance and support of Corvette Racing. This level of support went on for several years until IMSA decided to forgo Lime Rock for a return to Watkins Glen, a much bigger venue. I became a lifetime supporter of Corvette Racing, ALMS, and IMSA.

Now CHEVROLET has decided not to support Lime Rock with a Corral and it is a much smaller crowd of Vettes as a result. I have been to the last two WEATHERTECH races there but I must confess that I’ve never noticed that Porsche cars were well worn or had roll bars or that they had a lower percentage of lawn chairs since almost everybody sits in lawn chairs or blankets around the track in one of the most pastoral tracks I’ve ever been to. Every IMSA RACE I go to from Daytona through Road Atlanta the Corvettes way outnumber all other sports cars in the parking lots. I’ve never seen the aristocrats from Porsche there at the tents.

Regardless, make the announcement that the C8 will be there and my opinion is that Lime Rock will draw the crowd. Why would a Corvette lover advocate for anything else. Porsche owners on the other hand.............

IMSA never decided to forgo Lime Rock fort the Glen, it has ALWAYS had a race there since it's formation. The Glen was added to the schedule, LRP was not removed. The rest of your post I would largely agree with. The Connecticut Porsche Club makes up a lot of the Corral and those cars do tend to be heavily track driven, but I don't know how that compares to Corvette enthusiasts.. As for the C8 making an appearance at LRP, this car transcends core Corvette enthusiasts, if you're into cars this is the biggest story currently out there. If it shows up there, there won't be room to breath!

yes you are right! I guess I was the one that failed to attend Lime Rock as the Watkins Glen event was at a date that didn’t conflict with schedule. Thanks for pointing that out. I also agree with your well stated point that the C8 will transcend Corvette enthusiasts and will help to expand the marque. Thanks again for pointing out that Lime Rock has been continuously hosting the ALMS/IMSA RACE.

Hah! Actually, the point that was made to me was that the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronauts were all given Corvettes, so that was the connection, but hey, Musk shot a car into space.....as I said, I'm about as clueless as it gets!
