I almost went with a coupe but I'm so happy I decided on a hard-top convertible. However, if it would have been a soft top, I'd have opted for the coupe. I like the look of the rear profile on the HTC better than the coupe on the C8. Just personal preference, obviously.
I hope so...Rags look awful with the roof up.....New Technology, all Brands going to HTC....
Well, at least not MB. The new SL AMG or whatever they call it now is a ragtop. My 2013 is an HTC. Two reasons I wouldn't buy a new one, rag top and ridiculous wind screen that's not incorporated into the car like mine (integrated roll over bar with wind screen). Porsche also is still ragtop. I'm sure there are others.
I have no dog in this fight. I own an HTC Z06 which I chose for looks and trunk space, but out of interest I also have an M4 Cab. BMW only offers it in soft top and their white paper shows it's quieter than their old hard top because they can add noise insulation not feasible on the hard top. Also, weight distribution is better, lower in the chassis. It's looks and a variety of factors that determine which way a company goes. I don't like the looks as much as a hard top but man is it quiet.
Regarding the HTC Z06, this is my sixth Corvette and I've almost never taken the top off, it's a pia and takes up trunk space, so it's an either/or. I have it down now when ever possible. I see no downside to the HTC. I'm over looking into the engine bay. Seen it once, that's enough for me. Top down HTC is so exotic looking to my eyes.
I'm actually shocked MB went back to ragtop. I see ragtop as a cheaper, lower technology, lesser cousin to HTC's. Any time I can take the top off without doing it manually, taking up trunk/storage space, or worrying about the sun & elements ruining my fabric; is a win for me.
IMHO, the only reason to get a c8 Coupe is to save money. I don't even think "seeing the engine all the time" is sufficient justification. The HTC is just the bee's knees.
