One of my local dealers had their C8 showing this week. I went over and spoke to the sales manager who told me they had a good size list of folks who gave a 1K deposit. I asked him about convertibles and he said that the list was just for coupes. I told him I only want a convertible, so he took all of my info, my credit card, and started a convertible list with me number 1 on the list. I am curious to know if other dealers have 2 separate lists, or just one list. The problem with just one list is this. Let's say you are near the top of the list, and the dealer calls to tell you that it's time to order. You say you want a convertible, and are told that convertibles can't be ordered as of yet. In that scenario, your name would go to the bottom of the list, I would guess. Incidentally, from what I was told at the reveal in Tustin, the convertible will be revealed October/November and can be seen at the LA Auto Show Thanksgiving week. If that is the case, convertibles should be a 2020 model and begin production in February/March of 2020.
A friend was on "The List" to get one of the first Ford GTs, back when. As the time got nearer and nearer the dealer started calling and telling him that the price agreed to in writing was going up... and up ..and up. The first ones ended up priced much over "list." I cannot help but imagine if projected/anticipated C8 sales are really as good as some headlines have touted, the same may well happen with C8s.
(btw, when the Ford dealer got my friend's wife with one of his "OOPSIE" calls she cancelled the order on the spot. He went and bought a Lambo, instead. )
Ronnie, I actually had that conversation with my dealer as I am #1 on their only list thus by default at this point I configured a Coupe. Then I asked him what if I change my mind before the Coupe order is accepted to a HT Vert? He said Those behind me for a Coupe would move up and that I would still be at #1 for the HT Vert once available to be ordered per his then remaining allocation whether a HT or Coupe. That works for me.
We currently have 3 lists:
1.) Coupe
2.) Convertible
3.) Z06/ZR1/Zora
All lists are flexible and based on date of Deposit, have had several move back and forth as information changes. Expect more as pricing and convertible details emerge.
There maybe separate lists but it’s all about the allocations. All dealers know what allocations they have for all of 2020 model year. Unless GM is going to add more allocations to 2020 the vert/spider/Spyder C8 will probably be a 2021 built starting in September 2020.
If they add more allocations to 2020 model year for the vert/spider/Spyder then they will probably start making them in June 2020.

Yup, this is the right answer. Right now dealers know their 2020 allocations.
I’m in the same boat as you. I want the convertible, but if the four people ahead of me want the coupe, they’ll get it. Everyone behind me wants the coupe too? I’m SOL, unless the convertible is made available to order around December (when all options are available to order).

If the convertible is revealed in October or November as scheduled, then there would be no reason to wait until June-September to begin production. If production can't start until that time, there is no reason to reveal the convertible as early as this fall. I am willing to bet convertible production begins in the first quarter of 2020.
However, keep in mind that if a person walks into a Chev. showroom and sits down to order a new C8 on the spot? Many of you just lost your rotation. While the thumb twiddlers are trying to make up their minds, the customer in the showroom just gave that salesman a signed purchase order for a new C8.

You do realize the Dealer Sales Manager approves any purchased order brought to him by a salesman. And who do you think controls the C8 Allocation List(s) of buyers. If a thumb twiddler can’t pull the trigger when his/her allocation comes up the Sales Manger would contact the next person on the list after a fair warning to the twiddler’s their spot was about to go away.
I am in Texas and pretty far down the list at my dealership. Would have been high if they where still building by constraints but since it doesn’t matter now I am screwed.
