I've seen nothing but speculation and guessing so far in this thread....oh and a bunch of trolling too ().
Why can't you guys just wait for what actually happened to come out? Sure flushed out the know-it-alls...

Good thing it happened in a spot with a guard rail, that’s for sure.

Yup ! Having driven that road several times in both directions, it's a long way down to the bottom.

Default Ridiculous

You know it’s funny after a whole three years of waiting for this car to come out and speculation about what it will look like, Now everybody in this forum Is speculating on how the new car got in an accident. My god it was a car accident that just so happened to involve the new Vette. It’s done and over with move on

Obviously the SUV's left rear is gone, looks like the right rear is also gone, back end support by the guardrail, close call!

Does it matter who was at fault? It happened. Unless it makes you feel better if it was the SUV's fault. Btw, that front end looks fkd up big time from such a light hit.

This view shows coolant flowing downhill across the road and from inside the double yellow lines indicating the C8 was on it's own side of the road, - it may have been due to negative camber the white SUV had "cut" the inside of the corner, clipped the nose of the C* which has "dragged" the C8 into the front of the pick-up following close behind the white SUV.

Perhaps judgement of the C8 driver should be reserved whilst the "jury" deliberates further when full facts become available.

I see it a lot. People not paying good attention, or just crappy drivers cut inside the center line when going around corners. When approaching blind corners I'm always hugging the shoulder because the idiots in the outside lane ALWAYS cut into the inner lane. I believe that scenario is more likely than the Vette driver crossed into the outside lane.

Also a military trained aviation investigator and ground safety investigator and unit safety officer. Like the other two investigators that it seems have spoken, the first thing one learns is to keep one’s mouth shut. Professionals never speculate as to what happened in a possible accident until all the facts and crash dynamics studies are finished and all witnesses and participants are interviewed.

Initial assessments and “educated guesses” often prove to be completely erroneous and even quite embarrassing to those who make such guesses, particularly if they ascribe fault to someone that was completely innocent in all respects and might have even prevented injuries because of their inherent and learned skills. Be respectful of all individuals involved until it is known what actually happened.

Brake failures, steering failures, suspension failures, blown tires, gravel in the road, driver distraction, blinding sun glare off a mirror, or whatever, there is still the frequent “accident chain” that turns two or three recoverable minor sub parts into an actual incident or accident. Under such circumstances, even something like a Go Pro can lead an inexperienced investigator to erroneous conclusions.

Don't know anything?

We have full video of the accident scene with multiple angles of all the vehicles involved.

More important question, why do you feel the need to police the discussion?

Why do you feel the need to police the discussion? There is no video evidence of the actual accident, unless someone had a running cam. If so, the authorities probably have that.

Pointing that out is an essential element of this discussion. Absent video footage, or a couple of very consistent eyewitness accounts, we'll like never know the story unless one of those involved admits fault.

I drove on CA RT 120 recently, it is fortunate that there was guard rail at that turn. It could've been a fatal accident otherwise. Not so safe going on RT 4 crossing the Sierra with narrow winding roads, no guardrails, maybe 2" of spare room past the white line before 200' drop-offs. Then you get bicycle traffic! Fatalities are common, I arrived to one on RT 95 in Nevada, where one driver died on impact, the other was air lifted. Let me tell you, it is 'hard' to look for a pulse on a dead body in a crumpled car... RT 95 is a 2 lane road with 70 MPH limit, prevailing speed was 80 MPH. A head on there almost guarantees you a ride to the morgue.
