Just curious, am I the only one that doesn't like the looks of the winglet that is integrated into the rear of the door? It looks hideous to me when the door is open.
i never noticed until you pointed it out. the person in the car next to it will have to worry for a change
Take a look at exotics. My McLaren 570GT has the same issue -- but it's not a real issue. In everyday driving and use, you don't even notice. And that part of the McLaren goes flying up the air when the doors open! You need to be more careful than you will ever have to be in the C8.
My first Corvette was a new ‘99. Daily Driver. It had 144k miles when I received my new ‘05 C6. It had 99k miles when I bought my ‘12 ISF. It had 44k when I bought my ‘13 Audi S8.
Keeping the S8 as it is a real sleeper and keeping the wife’s ‘17 Audi Q7.
Deposit placed on a C8. Order will go in when constraint is removed on Zeus Bronze in November.
“Drive em like you stole ‘em”
stereotypes do not always fit the standard view of ‘Vette Owners. All humans and special and all are unique.
Every car door opens out into the space beside it and could hit whatever is there be it another car or a wall. Coupes are worse because their doors are bigger. What else is new? The winglet really doesn't change the situation one way or another.
I personally think it looks stupid & tacked on instead of nicely integrated into the door. I also don’t like that the trim piece is not flush which again makes it look cheap & tacked on - imo

Not a fan of it. Prior to launch, when all the mule photos were showing up, and the renderings...I was hoping it was going to be different. Well it sure is different. It’s starting to grow on me for a few reasons. I really do like the new design of the C8 over all. I thing they hit it out of the park and I’m differently getting one. I think IMO they did it that way to stand out from the crowd Corvette style and not be like the rest of the mid- engine cars out there.
I’ve been using the online visualizer a lot and I’m considering getting the side vent in the body color because it blends in a little better.

"Form Follows Function!" Makes it look beautiful to me! That air scoop directs air to cool the car! It's an ME and lots of heat back there! The driver's side duct has an engine radiator (in addition to the two up front) AND directs air over the hot engine! Has ducts to let it out when moving, just like those on the sides of the front fenders in the C7.
It will be funny to hear if the folks who open their C7 hood when they park in the garage to "let the heat out!" Takes all kinds BUT GM uses materials that can handle the heat!
Frankly who cares what it looks like with the door open!
Hideous One of the most, if not the most, overused words on car forums. Does not matter the make or model, if some one does not care for a particular feature its "Hideous". Tell us how you really feel.
Ok since you asked, I'll tell you how I really feel. It looks ugly, poorly executed, does not flow into the lines of the car, was poorly thought out, and is just an overall bad design. In a word HIDEOUS. Does that describe it enough for you?

I think it does flow well when the door is closed, actually like it. And after watching a recent video with Tadge from Carlisle, it actually is very important to direct the air sooner and more of it into the engine bay.
Still not a fan when the door is open, but it is growing on me.

Sounds good when someone speaks their mind still think HIDEOUS is a much over used word. Can we put you onto the will not buy list with the winglet as a deal breaker?
To be fair my side. I like the car overall & will buy one. Got one of the two features I really was looking for & was disappointed they left it out. Got the DCT but not the V8 DOHC TT.
Also think the winglet is dumb & should have been designed out. I would have liked to see the crease along the upper part of the door flow into the scoop without the wing sticking out.
One of the guys doing renderings did one that way. Thought the winglit was camo & the rendering was the car. Will get it body color to hide it a bit as the rest of the design is OK with me.
Don't like the winglet but its not a deal breaker nor is the 6.2L as its a good engine. Just thought the DOHC suited the overall personna of the car better.

I thought the exact same thing. I thought they were tacking that piece on to throw people off on the design. I guess at the end of the day I think it looks good with the door closed so I'm fine with it.
I like it. It looks like it can be a sacrificial part if you get the door yanked out of your hand by the wind, or your passenger throws open the door a little too hard.
One of the things I like a lot about the Corvette is that they're built for everyday use, and because they are so common, they don't really need to be put on a pedestal and you can enjoy the car for just being a (really great performing) car.
The fact that I can just replace a small piece of plastic instead of having paintwork done if a door grinds itself against something is really appealing to me, especially since I plan on dailying it to the tune of about 30k miles per year.
To me, open or closed, it looks like an afterthought and tacked on. Seems they could have done it differently. It's not bad enough it would be a deal killer for me.
