Hey guys, sorry if I missed this being discussed, my question is regarding the summer tires on the Z51. Does the cold temperature cracking issue we had on the Summer tires on the C7 still exist on the C8 Summer tire when exposed to and driven in 20 Deg or colder temps. I understand that the grip is greatly reduced, I'm concerned on damaging tires.
I asked my dealer and two different Reps at a couple of reveals. I have looked up info from Michelin as well with no luck. Is absence of this being discussed mean that there no longer is an issue?
Any Info would be appreciated.

No one has received their car yet so at this point it’s anyone’s guess. I will say not everyone had cracked summer tires on their Z51. My tires never cracked, had the car since 2014, and I’m in the Northeast.
Is the Z51 on Cup 2 tires? I live in Fl., but we did have a couple instances of getting into the high 20's when I owned my 911 Turbo and my tires were fine. I know my tires were Porsche spec Cup 2's with air so that doesn't really answer your question but just adding my 2 cents.

Called summer tires for a reason and should not be driven in freezing temps. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...oaAlKYEALw_wcB this valid for any vehicle equipped with summer tires. If you want to drive in colder temps get all seasons.

If you're asking about the C8 Z51, the tire is Michelin Pilot Sport 4S runflat
Never had any issue with the MPSS on my C7 Z51. Ran 2 sets of those tires to 57K miles before selling in June. Drove it in high teens to low 20s at times.

Has nothing to do with the make/model of tire, or what make/model of car they're on. Summer tires shouldn't be used at temps below 45°F, and it typically states that cars should not even be moved when temps hit 20°F or below... that's where you're most at risk of cracking.
All summer tires suck in those temps. In addition to all sucking, some will crack. Others will flatspot until you can get enough heat in them to go back to round. Just don't do it.
Why people spend so much on cars and then put inappropriate tires on them, I'll never know.

also when you do European Delivery on a BMW which comes standard with summer tires, they have you put on (rent) all season or winter tires between October 15 and March 15, as it is the law in many European countries. https://www.bmwusa.com/european-delivery.html
Never heard of cold cracking tires. My understanding it's UV radiation and ozone. I've driven Porsches with Dunlop, Pirelli P Zero, Michelin PS2, and Sumitomo summer tires in the canyons in sub 20 degree temps for nearly 20 years. Never any cracking. I do tip toe around on those ice cold roads however and don't see how quickly I can straighten out the curves.
Holy crap... THere were SOME instances of Cup 2 tires cracking. They were sitting on railroad cars in SUB freezing temps for days.... THey tried to move the vehicles and the tires cracked. CUP 2 tires!
I don't know of any cracking issues on the PSS tires. But get anything cold enough and you can crack it...
