I have the wire tap for my Escort 360 but I'm not going to be the first one tapping the rear view mirror haha Right now I'm riding dirty with the cord plugged into the passenger footwell 12v connection
Breaker, Breaker.... One NINEer... If you shuffle along at 75-80 m p h on almost any SuperSlab, and aren't behaving like a Knee Reflex,.... I doubt you'll have a problem with Smokey, Yogi, or even Honey BooBoo.
IRC, the Double Nickel was taken out of circulation a decade before Burt Reynold's last hair transplant. Now a quick blast to Make the Ton may expose you to the same risk as buying a $1 PowerBall ticket, and a corn dog at the Crap Table, I'll bet my leisure suit, you won't get flagged or tagged.
But if you want to blow the rent on a Stealth Bomber, be my guest..... BTW... I have some Grand Funk Railroad 8-tracks for sale.

You are obviously someone that doesn’t take a spirited drive in the California canyons. We’re not worried about freeway cruising, it’s during sprinted driving... when the speed limits are 40-50 and we tend to exceed that at times

Come-on.... just having fun.
I did more than my share of bombing back country roads back when I was young and stupid in Central Pa, and I was 10/10ths. no playtime.... (I remember coming down Reeser's Summit (AKA Greaser's Summit). at 90MPH with no brakes in a 2002, and lived to tell about it)...
I know the drill.
So... say you are hitting a blind sweeper on Desert Canyon Rd at about 110, and. BOOM... you get 5 lights and a beep from your detector, and 100 yards ahead, line of sight, is a cop with radar, and you think you are suddenly going to slow down to 50 MPH, and go merrily on your way without attracting any attention? Or say, he's just sitting there reading House and Garden, and you blow by at 110.... and he shoots you from behind, or simply claims you were driving recklessly?
If these roads are as quiet, and empty as they should be to do this kind of serious roadwork, and suddenly there is a cop over a blind hill, and you think he didn't hear a Corvette hitting red line two times half a mile away, and is so dumb he couldn't figure out that it was you rather than the other 3 Corvettes that happened to pass by in the last 3 minutes??
And what is the chance that a cop is setting a speed trap on a deserted desert road at 2:00 on Saturday Afternoon?
I don't know.... I left my crystal ball at home.... but say you get nailed....
Chances are, if you were not putting other citizens at risk, you are polite, show proper deference, and don't act like a total bleep, most cops will either give you a stern warning, or write you up for a lesser offense, and cost you a few hundred and some points.
Look, if you want to buy an expensive radar detector and think it keeps you from getting a speeding ticket, then fine.... its your money.... I don't care... won't hurt... but I'm skeptical about how effective they really are.
@jcp911s My Escort 360 has saved my *** many times in the canyons, usually its when a cop is many turns ahead and it catches spotty Ka band signals. They're money well spent in my opinion and I wouldn't drive in the canyons without one. Now when it comes to driving fast on the freeway, if the freeway is open, I'm driving 80-90
What is the radar of choice? Escort Max CI 360?
i'm looking to install once my c8 get's here in the next 2 weeks but want the best protrction
thx in advance
Yep, reminded of what we had to do with our early C7s. No Blendmount and GM said the mirror could not be tapped! We used fuse 37 in the rear. Actually quicker than the Blendmount mirror tap I used for my Grand Sport!
This is rough idea of doing what you said and using the small "D" molding I used for my September 2013 built C7 after running the wires up behind the "A" piller. Could not see the "D" molding that has 3M adhesive tucked high on inside window modling, Worked fine. Even on my Grand Sport that used Blendmount wires from the mirror I mount my radar detector high to the right of the mirror- no blocked visibility.
Yep, as you say, we'll see what the first C8 owners do- I'm a few months back. Took Blendmount about a year before they had their wire kits.
this is the method I went with, you can’t see the Max 360c wires and it only took 30 min to install

Depends who you ask. I’m currently running a Valentine 1 Gen 2.

Yep as of yesterday morning was ready to solder wires to my right angle plug and prepared to do the same when my C8 arrived! Then it was shown that access to the back of the C8 mirror is very easy and it was simple to install a Blendmount wire tape kit.
I removed my ESCORT detector from my 2017 Grand Sport along with the wire tap and will use it! Even kept the 3 other width taps that came with the Blendmount kit so will see which works best. Frankly I prefer to have the detector mounted high on the windshield to the right of the mirror where it does not block visiosn. Had it 3 1/2 years mounted there on my 2014 Z51 and 3 1/2 on my Grand Sport. I do use a small stainless wire tether that prevents the detector from falling on the dash if the suction cup lets lose. In 7 years has never happened when driving but does a few times each summer if parked facing the sun on a very hot day. Does no harm just hangs from the top of the windshield!
Made this THREE STEP Pic "How To" use a Blendmount Wire for your specific Radar Detector. It includes the URL of a useful video that showed the process.
Since I don't have my C8 yet, if someone tries, please provide feedback.

I’m thinking I’ll do a Valentine V1 Gen 2 as well, but there are lots of choices, some good some bad. Lots of good information here:
