OK, I've read everything on this forum and the stickies regarding the ordering process. I ordered a C7 early on, so I somewhat understand the system. I'm still confused...
My dealer has allocation and I am at 1100 on the coupe.
If I change to the convertible and GM picks up my order before the constraints are lifted, do I remain at the head of the line when they are no longer constrained?
Or do I go back in line and wait like everyone else?
This whole ordering thing seems convoluted, especially with constraints and a new model.
I am waitin on the Z so have only paid cursory attention to the order/allocation process and procedures but I believe I have read if you change your order to the Spider you will keep your position in the queue.

GM doesn't "pick up orders". Your dealer assigns your order to an allocation that GM has given them. Let's say you change your order to a convertible. If you are next in line at your dealership and they get an allocation but convertibles are not available to order yet, then they skip you and go to the next guy. You should stay at your place in line (but how the dealer handles this is totally up to them). When they get their next allocation, if convertibles are allowed and your order has no constrained items, then they assign your order to the allocation and you are on your way.
There are no separate convertible allocations. Orders for convertibles will be accepted in January and come out of the dealers Corvette allocation.
Not exactly true... Their are constraints. I would not be surprised to see a 25 or 30% for the first orders. Meaning if your dealer gets 4 allocation for January and he will be only allowed to submit 1 as a Vert.

You are wrong. There are not separate allocations for coupes and convertibles. Come January, when the factory can preference convertibles, dealers can submit as many coupes and/or convertibles as they are allotted for the month. Let's say a dealer has an allotment of 25 cars. He will submit the top 25 on the list, no matter if it coupe or convertible. If an item is on constraint, the customer will decide if he wants to omit that item in order to get his order submitted, or move down on the list.
Very few dealers have 2 separate lists for coupes and convertibles.

I did not say separate lists. I just said when they first start accepting orders there could be constraints.based on history of C6 and C7 startups.

Since the coupe and convertible are basically the same car as far as options and colors go, there won't be any constraints on options and colors for the convertible that are not constrained for the coupe.
There is very likely to be a limit to the percentage of convertible orders they accept. We'll have to wait until the constraints are released for the next order cycle.

The first cycle to accept and preference convertibles will not be until January.
My dealer just told me my convertible order has been accepted (I was 4th on their list of pre-orders) and that, because of the strike, they understood that GM will co-build coupes and convertibles from the start of 2020 production. Previous communiques indicated there would be no constraints either. I really hope so. I would very much like to see my convertible before the end of summer in the great white north.

I think your dealer is incorrect. The last thing I saw (from a very credible source, Kerbeck) is that convertible orders will not be accepted (by GM) until January. This was posted last week:
That is what I thought too, but my dealer had told me it was accepted when I was there a couple hours ago. Maybe it's a Canadian thing that they get accepted by GM Canada and get gateway-ed into the US system when they are allowed. I have my fingers crossed that I will see the car with some time to drive it.
