Default What would you do?

OK guys (and gals). I'm really undecided on this.
I'll be 75 in a couple of weeks, My health is marginal, at best, and if I live another 10 years it'll be a miracle. I've have an incurable disease of the lungs called 'pulmonary arterial hypertension, which puts a heavy load on my heart. I've owned a Corvette for most of my adult life, starting with a 1964 roadster. I currently have a C-5 and a C-7. I love the look (and the reviews) of the C-8. I can easily afford whatever one I want, on a cash basis. My choice would likely be a vert, Z51. I know you only go around once in life, and I should enjoy what I can, while I can. I've been married over 50 years, and my wife would probably not be in favor of my getting another Vette, but she'd get over it.

Should I go for it, or use good sense, and just enjoy what I already have?

SINCE you asked, I'd have to say go for it, with the understanding that you stated you can afford it as a cash purchase, etc. The car can always be sold later on. If you don't go with it, you'll likely be second guessing yourself. Sounds like after 50 years, you've figured out that your wife will get over it.

My 82 year old Brother in Law currently owns 3 Vettes and isn't the greatest health. He can also afford them, and it gives him great pleasure driving them, washing them, and talking about them. He doesn't do the internet or use a computer, so I've found several of his cars for him.

In fact, he ( actually I am ) is looking for a clean 2010 to 2012 C6 Coupe, Auto, BLUE with a gray, or tan interior. He certainly doesn't need a 4th Vette at one time, but it's his hobby and pleasure. I'd say the same thing to you, not even knowing you. Go for it......

I was diagnosed with Leukemia 14 Years ago. I'm still here at age 66 (thank you Big Pharma) and I say go for it.

I'm spending $70,000 on a C8 that (maybe) could be spent more wisely, but whatever Life is still in me should be enjoyed, and I enjoy owning and driving fun cars.

When I bought my 2014 C7, I ended up having a reoccurrence of my Disease a few Months later. I ended up driving it to and from the Hospital for Months. I would come out and look at my brand new C7 sitting in the Handicap Space with the Disabled Placard hanging from the Mirror and just imagine what people were thinking to themselves as they walked by it.

You know what they say, you can't take it with you.

Look at this way, you could have a bunch of expensive Hobbies. If being a Car Guy is your thing and it gives you joy, why not?

Besides, when you check out, the Wife can sell the C8 and get most of your, err HER money back or she can drive around in it with her new Boyfriend. Don't worry, be happy.

I would say do one of two things:
1) Sell your other two Corvettes and get a C8, this way your wife is thinking you're getting your act together and will be for it (who really needs 2 or 3 Corvettes?)
2) Sell one and soup up the other because it will actually be faster than the C8. No money even needs to be spent here the sale will pay for the soup up. If you really want to enjoy your Corvette then really hot Corvette will be a lot of fun (enjoyment)
If you get down to just one Corvette then less time spent cleaning and more time spent driving.
What would I do? I would sell the 2 and get a well equipped C8 convertible.
PS I'll be 80 in July so maybe my opinion is worth more

I’d suggest you lighten your load and sell your C5 and C7 and Go all out on a ‘20 C8 built just for you. I suspect it will consume almost all your Corvette driving going forward, it appears to be that good. I’m 76.5 and that’s what I’m doing, only one car toy at a time at this point in my life. My wife agrees. I will be even considering trading that in for a different C8 for my 80th.

EDIT: Funny, I was typing a very similar post to just above ^ and didn’t see it before entering my post. and I agree with it too.

Almost any combination of c5+c7 could be traded for a c8.
trade them in... Can't imagine either would get driven much when a shiny new c8 is in the garage.

Hmm, none of us knows how long we have left! I'm 77 and fortunate to be in good health. Have a 2017 Grand Sport and the C8 on order will be my 6th Vette. Will enjoy and hopefully can get a C8 Grand Sport when I get "old!"

Suggest the Nike moto!

How about a compromise?
Sell other 2, get C8.
Wife would be happier, you'd be very happy.

I'd say get the C8 with the understanding that your current health allows you to enjoy it. If it is difficult for you to get in and out of it you may want to consider a different fun car that is easier for you. The C8 won't do you any good if you don't enjoy it.

My only sibling would tell me every time I talked to her how many more days to retirement and died from a stroke after surgery, never woke up and died three days later. Get the car and appreciate every day you have.

My girlfriend’s dad is a guitar collector. But his wife has a rule; one in, one out. If he’s bringing in another guitar, one of the current guitars needs to get sold. I say bring on the C8 and let either the C5 or C7 go. Keep the one you like better. Having no more cars than you have now should keep the wife happy.
