Default First problem on my C8

Got the car a couple days ago. The problem is not major. The glove box will not open. It makes a quiet click sound when the button is pushed but doesn't release. I took a quick look to see if I could release it myself but can't see an easy way to do so. I really don't want to visit the dealer until things are at least close to normal, and it doesn't cause any real issues. Hopefully this is the one problem I have.

So far love the car and am looking forward to getting 500 miles behind me. Below is the "required" here is my new car pic.

I seem to have fixed the issue. Was pretty easy once I figured how the release was supposed to work. On the right and left side of the glove box frame are two square holes that the catches for the lid go into. On the right hand side there is a plunger that pushes on the right side catch. The catch on the left is tied to the one on the right so they both work with a press on one side. The plunger on mine was not engaging. I tried prying with a flat head screwdriver (not recommended) on the top without luck but when prying on the right side I heard the plunger engage. I got lucky with the placement as I had tried prying earlier without luck. What I believe the problem was is that the plug into the back of the plunger mech was not seated fully. When the glove box was opened I could manually pull the right side of the frame and the plunger would engage - let go and nothing. I took off the side trim panel and could see the back of the mech and using a long screw driver I attempted to seat the plug. After several tries and closing and opening the glove box with various force it appears fixed. I'm uploading a couple pics if anyone has this problem in the future.

Panel pops off with a little persuasion (don't use a screwdriver like I did)

Panel removed.

Is there a fuse for the electric lock for the glove box? If u can find one i would pull the fuse and try it with fuse pulled.

Good idea. I will check, but if I recall correctly the fuses are located behind the glove box.

Since you hear a click sound it is likely a mechanical misalignment of the door or its lock. Try applying a light prying force or a tap on the door while you push the button.

My father-in-law also has a C8 and I just compared to his. The clicking I'm hearing is just the button being pushed. I think either something is not hooked up or the release motor is defective I have tried prying it with my fingers while pushing the button and tried giving it some sideways force with no effect. A visit to the dealer is in my future.

With as you say things not being normal do you want to go near the dealership? I have three cars that need to be inspected by the end of May before I can renew their registrations and have been wondering how I am going to handle that issue. Right now I know none of them have a contamination issue. Once out of my hands at a dealership that all goes out the window. I figure I can social distance myself from the Service Writer but the car won't be able to do that with the car jockeys that move it around and the mechanics that work on it. At a minimum I will need to disinfect the door handles and the driver's area before getting into the car to drive it home.

Sounds like a minor adjustment, if you haven't tried yet push on the door at the same time hitting the button.

As I said in my first post, I will take it to the dealer once things are back to normal (or whatever poses as the new normal).

When I got it earlier this week I disinfected anything that could have been touched inside and the door handles outside.

Retired to MS from CA. They closed all the Statewide License Bureau locations, aka the DMV, so people cannot renew their Drivers Licenses. The Tax Office is also closed, so no new Vehicle Registrations either.

Since things are closed the Police are not Ticketing People for having an expired DL or Registration. We don't have any required Vehicle Inspections or Smog Checks either, thank goodness. We do have Constitutional Carry though...

C7 had a little trim panel you could remove, and then you could manually actuate the latch with a long screwdriver. I'm sure C8 has something similar. I actually had the same problem with my C7 after my PDR install. It was just a minor alignment issue.

Call your dealer and ask if they can pick up the car, service it, and deliver it back. That's the way most all car dealers in the DC metro area are operating now. It's about the only way they're going to be able to keep their dealerships afloat during the pandemic.

Before you do anything I think your first official step should be to contact the dealer with a phone call, talk to your sales guy or service adviser, get his name and email address, put it on paper with date stamp, make sure they respond to you with whatever they can do for you, let them know you dont want to go in right now do to certain reasons, but that you would like an appointment for a future date or at least to be noted that you have this problem,

The last thing you need is the dealer saying, its been 3 months sir, anything could have happen, wear and tear item.
Im sure you get the idea.

In NC we have to have the car inspected, pay our insurance bill and pay the personal property taxes along with the registration. All of that can be dine by mail or online except the Inspection. It isn't much of an inspection but it still needs to be done by somebody which means going to shop. Have already received the insurance bill and the personal property tax and registration bills.
