Just asking anyone who remembers...was there as much “hoopla” when the ‘84 C4 came out as there is now for the C8? Were people paying over invoice, on waiting lists, etc. since the C4 was such a radical new design at the time?
Yes I'm hooked on Corvettes too. Have owned 26 so far over the years.

I do remember the 90 ZR1 they sold as mush as 100K for a 56,500 car I waited till year end got a small discount off msrp
also the 06 Z06 went for about 10-20 k over list I waited and ordered mine at msrp late got the car which I loved in August of 06

There was a tremendous amount of talk about the '84 and they were difficult to get. They also made a big splash when they started appearing in public. One must remember that was a very different time without the continuous sharing of one's most intimate thoughts and deeds 24/7.

I remember the '84 Corvette had 205 HP. Big Hoopla. All the early 80's cars had low power, even my '81 Turbo Trans Am.

The 1984–1988 Corvettes are by far the lowest-priced 'Vettes on the market. As such, base-model C4 Corvettes are not generally considered collectible, and it's doubtful they ever will be. I agree most of the C4 generation is a good way to get into the hobby. Keeping in mind your best off to find the best one you can in excellent condition because if it needs too much work you will never get your money back.
The only ones that really seem to be holding is the last year Grand Sport LT4 model. Many of the buyers of the new 2020 C8 do not like the black wheels with the silver outer rim, the 96 Grand Sport had a similar look. I remember back then many older guys did not like the black rims, I did and still do after all these years. To each his own. After all the years driving all the different generations my least favorites were my two C4’s one was a 90 ZR1 and the other was the 96 Grand Sport. During the 80’s after I left working at a Chevy dealer I purchased a new 86 911 coupe and in 88 a new 911 Cab. I actually now have in addition to my 67 Corvette an 89 911 coupe which is still an amazing handling and fun car to wind up through the gears, I know many of you don’t care for the new 911’s but the old ones are a hoot to drive.

I've owned 8, first being a used 71 Vert purchased in 1973. Latest is a 2019 Vert.
I'm passing on the C8 hard top vert. Just doesn't do it for me........
For me, it started with C4. Had a ‘92 and a ‘95. Then a C5 - ‘02. Then two C6’s - ‘05 and a ‘10. And now a ‘14 C7. Hopefully a ‘20 C8 if my order ever moves past 3000.

I currently have a C3 Convertible and a C7.... while I admit the C3 was a piece of crap, it was less of a piece of crap than the other pieces of crap that are being foisted on the helpless public in the '70s. (can you tell I grew up in the 70's and not a fan!!!). It's a keeper, and costs me nothing.
Mostly, I've owned Porsches, BMWs and SAABS, and other than a pathetic '72 Ford Torino (sorry, I was broke, over-educated and unemployable, and couldn't stand driving my sister-in-laws powder blue shift-matic VW beetle)), and a very, very used F250 work-truck, I've not owned alot of American cars...
The C7 was the only truly new car I've ever purchased, but I'm impressed. It's paid off in 2 months, and if the market returns to reality, I'd seriously consider trading up to a C8..... but I'm not going to pay MSRP, and am ambivalent about taking another $30K depreciation hit, so I may just keep the C7, and go for a used Cayman S.

Progress is a beautiful thing. 1985 C4 (my very first car I bought with my own money in 1990) and my 2020 C8. At the time I remember the C4 was just as exciting as the C8 is today. It would be interesting to know the statistics of whether new C8 owners owned previous Corvette models or whether the C8 is their first Corvette.

When c4 came out it was 2 years old, it’s very interesting to hear that back then it was as exciting and unique as the c8 today.

First time owner here too. I’ve always liked the exterior styling but the interiors always put me off. I ordered the C8 without seeing one in person. During the wait I was seriously considering getting something else because I wasn’t crazy about the way it was looking in follow up photos. I’m happy I went through with the purchase. The car was a performance bargain even at 3LT, the interior is good enough and the exterior styling looks great in person. I’ve already asked my dealer to notify me as soon as Z06 orders open and look forward to years of Corvette ownership. A C1 is the other one I plan on having some day.
OP... nice tweaks on your car. Doing that lower blade in black was a no brainer for me.

My wife and I have owned Vettes ever since a week before we got married back in ‘03. We were in our early 20’s then and have had several since. Currently own 8 corvettes and a handful of other cars. The Vettes we CURRENTLY own are: Pennant Blue 1954; 1963 split window and matching 1963 convertible; 1979L82; 1996 Collector Edition; 2003 Anniversary Edition; 2012 Grand Sport; and 2015 Z06.
We are looking forward to ordering a C8Z06 whenever those become available.
I’m almost done driving carpool. Decided on the 2021 C8 after thinking long and hard about a 2020 GT350. Grew up in a house full of European sports cars: XKE, MGA, Morgan, Austin-Healey....then Dad finally got a C4 my last year in high school. The car I always wanted was a GTO. Now, 40 years later I’m getting MY first fun car. Can’t wait.
