People gasp how can they sell it for under $60K well this is how. Low quality parts from the lowest sub standard suppliers. Something has to give when this is your business model.
What triggered you or the dealer to spot this issue ?
I keep the inside of my wheels spotless and one side just seems to accumulate a few grease spots along with normal break dust. I noticed it for approximately 200 miles which equaled two different washes.
I took it to the dealer for an oil change and trans oil change and asked them to check it out.
It took all of two seconds to spot it with the wheel off.
hey at least its not a dropped valve or titanium shavings in the oil
That was exactly my thought. I had the engine oil and trans sent out for analysis. I wont get it back for a week but visually both looked clean to the eye.
But it kinda looks like it scraped something and sliced open a hole. Hard to tell from the photo.
Something to look for.
I looked at it with the tech and it’s hard to tell. It’s ripped on the top and a near perfect slice on one of the top ribs.
It was either a manufactures defect on the part or improper / careless handling during assembly. Once we get it off, clean it and have a look at the inside we should be able to tell which one it is.

Did you have the same issue with yours? Oh I forgot, you do not have one, you have not even ordered one. Nevermind

Based upon the fact that GM vehicles conically have poor quality interiors compared to their competitors it would be reasonable to assume they also cheap out on other things........
If you need reference to support what I said about interiors just look up reviews on their brand new truck for a start. Then look up reviews on their brand new Cadillac suvs........... keep going it does not end.
I will say this. The interior materials on the C8 appear to me having sat in a bunch at different events and Carlisle last year, to be the best ever put inside of a Corvette.
But you're correct about the full size trucks. They're a joke compared to ford and dodge.
BUT they're supposed to be enhanced for 2021.
So far this a good place to start for the C8 and yes there will be growing pains as in every generation not to mention this is the FIRST mid engine Corvette. I always expected this gen at least the first few mode years to be an experiment.. what you're seeing with the trans leaks non engagement stitching headlights paint run etc etc is run of the mill to me... there have been no ridiculous NVH or quirky driving problems reported here at least. THAT is the kind of thing that can sting the whole run..
Yes I do agree that they APPEAR from the pictures I have seen that the new Corvette has a nice interior.......... finally.
But the truck is their BREAD and butter vehicle. By far the most important thing they sell and like you noticed they put a dollar store interior in it even in the Denali trim. Fake wood does not work anymore.............
I just shake my head because they KNOW HOW to make nice stuff but for whatever reason they continually fall short of their competitors. Perhaps some day.
Not really a "mechanical issue". Mechanical would be a hard part failure. A rubber CV boot does not meet that criteria. CV boots a relatively inexpensive so it's not the end of the world and a quick and easy fix, provided you have the part.
