While I’m in agreement with this sentiment, the idea here is cool if there were a sweet-looking engine to show off, but alas GM gives you a $400 plastic engine cover instead.
If the car had something like this under the glass, by all means light it up & draw attention to it.
In fact have been disappointed there was no good place on the C7 to install "driving lights!" Have added to a number of cars where they were a big help. Looking at the C8 and the new LED light options it looks possible! These are some large LED's but many smaller. With the many deer in our area would be good to see that much further or over a wider area!
I do not want to assume, but if you have received your C8 and driven it at night, you would realize that this is the first vehicle (i have ever owned) that needs ZERO additional Lighting up front. On low beams, it is like many on High. This is not a Frunk design, it's perfect.
CanAM...the Amazon link he posted shows 3 AA batteries. LED's in this amount will not drain them too quickly and should last quite some time, unless he forgets and leaves them on!
I got some of these lights to light up my glass top computer desk surround.
I liked the look but the problem is that it only lasts about -6 hours before i have to change the batteries.
I got some rechargeable batteries, but it got to be a pain to change them everytime I want to light up my room.
I switched to AC power
If you don’t like it move on! No one asked you for your comments!

Take A Chill Pill !
Didn't say I didn't like it, Just commented that The lights with the battery packs didn't last long for MY application
and one with a direct connection to the cars electrical system might be longer lasting.
I just left the dealership a few minutes ago and spoke to one of the Corvette techs about running LEDs in the engine bay compartment. He said the easiest power source would be the positive lead off of the alternator. Has anyone tried that? Does that sound like a valid idea?
^^^
Yep, it's connected all the time to the battery. Have to add a switch and definitely an inline fuse close to the alternator.
But once you get to the treaded post looks like a simple ring terminal will do. It will move with the engine but so do other wires. Just need a loop and multistrand fine cooper wires (can handle flexing.) Find a close wire harness and attached to it with plastic ties.
Used that terminal all the time in my C7's to check battery voltage (with engine off for ~12 hours to reduce the false high reading from a surface charge.) Not so easy to access in the C8. For that easier to just check at the battery just have to remove the plastic covers in the Frunk.
I have an Opti7 kit ready to go but I don’t want to try to run wires from the battery back to the engine bay. I’ve heard you can get power from a fuse box behind the waterfall where the wireless phone charger is but I’m not inclined to pulling and tugging, and tearing something up.

Coming from the ultimate C8 hater. Now thats funny!

why ruin a thread with the above 2 posts?
if not interested why not just move along
Yes, I agree.
I actually wanted an engine bay light but I didn't want the "cheesy" carbon fiber engine bay appearance package for $1000.
I would like the light so I can see my engine and trunk area better in the dark.

I’m going to look over that thread referenced on getting power from trunk area. Just need to view it on my computer vs phone. Need to see about the wires into the bay.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
