I got a ticket last year while I was passing a car in my BMW Z. I went into the left lane to pass and just as I did that I saw an oncoming car in the distance in the left lane and punched the accelerator to get by the car I was passing. Turned out that the car coming towards me in the opposite lane was a county sheriff and I got a ticket for 20 mph over the 55 mph limit. Tried to explain that it was just a short burst to get by the car I was passing and get safely back into the right lane, but it fell on deaf ears. If I had been using a detector I would have known not to pass at that moment even though the car in front of me was driving me batty by driving slowly, then back up to speed, then slowly again, then back up to speed and on and on.
I had exactly that same thing happen to me several years ago and the cop's comments were if you have to accelerate beyond the posted speed limit to pass then don't pass. You can't exceed the speed limit to pass someone even on a two lane road which is absolute BS.
I got this 3m mount off eBay and it works perfect for the Valentine. You install the Valentine cradle on it and it fits high and tight on the windshield. It also comes with the hardwire kits as well. Made for an easy install.
This could be a determining factor.
Still deciding...
A visor clip is what I used on my 1st 2 Vettes, a 1988 and a 1993. I had a lighter ESCORT Detector and it worked fine. I taped the mirror light for the 12 vol power. neat install and worked fine.
My current Passport Max is too heavy AND does not have a visor mount available.
I've had my detector in my Malibu drop over time due to heat on the windshield and interior. I didn't notice until a few weeks ago that the top of the dash material has a few Nick's in it. I initially covered the area, but now have the detector on a piece of foam after that and reading about the best place for lasers is long the dash - lower.

Radar detection is better high up on the windshield. I wouldn’t worry about laser detection with a radar detector. It’s really nothing more than a ticket notification device. Once your detector goes off with a laser hit there is a 99% chance your speed has already been measured. For laser you need jammers. They are illegal here, although it’s just a mechanical discrepancy ticket I think. I don’t plan to use jammers. My laser countermeasures are using Waze and utilizing a rabbit out in front (follow a half mile behind some other guy going the speed you prefer, he’ll get the laser hit and the ticket). I don’t even speed much but Murphy’s law say I’ll get stopped if/when I do. I’m leaning towards a Valentine 1 Gen 2. I currently have an old Escort Solo S2, it’s junk now.

Are you able to get your rd level with that mount? I have it also, but there is no way I can get the thing level in mine.

Yes it’s perfect. I installed some thicker black 3m tape. It gives a bit more room to level it out and blends in better with the detector on the windshield.
The CHP and Sheriff’s out here in SoCal can get pretty clever and even tricky at times. Once in awhile they even operate in teams and hide in proximity to traffic flow radars. I prefer the Escort Max 360 because it can track up to 4 at once and indicate proximity as well as whether ahead, behind, left, or right. But there are certainly other good detectors out there.
I went with the Uniden R1 ($199). The R3 adds GPS that I don't need for $299.
Has anyone Hardwired to the C8 Camera Mirror yet / Is it possible / Anything special / problems / Don't do iT?
Which Hardwired Kit did you select? Example shown.
Yep, have my V1G2 hardwired to the mirror. Took maybe 5 minutes at most and cost $15. I'll PM you info since I'm not sure we can link to other boards on here.
Thanks again. The image with the url for the video doesn't work. Watched the actual video from PM. Explains everything nicely. The correct URL follows.
He said he used his fingernail. When I get mine (built last week, still in Bowling Green) I'll use what I did on my C7, one of my dentil picks! You can use a dental pic to make room in the electrical connector for the pins from the detector wire. Let us know what terminals you used, i.e. how far from an end etc.
