A friend of mine took his new Sebring Orange C8 to Tractor Supply. As he's leaving his car, a lady getting in a nineties Mustang coupe says to him " I'm glad to see I'm not the only one driving a sports car today". He politely said to her "yes ma'am". He had to control himself to not break out laughing.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Foxbody Mustangs. And some of them have been converted to drag strip monsters that could leave a C8 in the dust.

Funny story: I needed a roll of barbed wire and stopped at Tractor Supply in my Chevy Volt! The guy who loaded it said he didn’t think he had ever loaded barbed wire in a car before, much less a Volt.

It's a sports car to the general public, who are not nitpickers about such things as what officially qualifies as a sports car.

The lady was just being nice, not sure why you would think otherwise or put down the fact she was driving an older Mustang. Car enthusiasts drive what their budget allows.

From Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

Definition of sports car

: a low small usually 2-passenger automobile designed for quick response, easy maneuverability, and high-speed driving

I think it fits. It is not small according to old definitions, but it meets the rest better than a 911 (two seat versus 2+2). The definition last was met maybe by the Alfa 4C and and some models of the Lotus Elise. Those were small cars. Does a Miata fit? I suppose some of the Boxster/Cayman models fit. They are not particularly small now either.

Why luxury GT versus sports car, be very specific.

What are the exact specifications to meet the definition of sports car? Wheelbase, length, weight, seat numbers, height, power to weight, top speed, the whole set of specifications.
