IMO: GM is trying to get the real demand so they can do long range forecast to there suppliers. If two people place 1100 workbench orders one at 3 different dealerships and the other at 2 dealerships then GM sees a forecast of 5 vehicles. Not true they only need two. If the dealership cannot place an order in workbench unless they have an allocation that takes care of the over forecast problem. It would cut down on all of the questions about where is my car and what code am I at.

Nice interesting take. I can put into this as well. True numbers oppose to what they seeing. They definitely can't be happy seeing what's happening with they vehicle right now. They DO actually have people they employee to follow online and report back.

That's an inevitable byproduct of GM (Guerrilla Manufacturing). Lack of confidence forces people to back themselves up, sometimes several times over. There are many components to GM including, but not limited to poor communication from both manufacturer and dealer and "Wild West" selling tactics like bushwacking. As long as the situation remains schizoid, that's what will happen.
OMG on Kevin Whitaker Chevy. Very rude to me also. They are one of the few Dealerships in the top 20 that are not selling at MSRP. Supply vs Demand. Until the folks with the attitude " Prices no problem" get their fill of the C8's it will go on. I suspect when the Z06 makes it entrance the supply of used C8 will fill the demand.
We went to the C8 reveal there. There were several C7s that they were deep discounting. I think they have been taking a bath for a couple of years with higher inventory with the hope of getting more C8 allocations. Now they are trying to make up for previous losses.
While could be a factor and true serves no purpose for that message when GM themselves haven't gave out total yearly allocations. So why state this when you only giving allocations to certain dealers in bulk and then not telling others so they can be honest instead of saying we think we will get this many because that's what we got before.
The message seems all to familiar to just be a reminder to announce to dealers to not enter all your orders at once clogging up the system and account and keep track of they own orders and deposits on a internal basis and only enter those needed when allocations are given.
I am number 623 on Macmulkins list. They just entered my build into the GM Orderworkbench.
Perhaps it's because of unscrupulous dealers like this ? I inquired about a 2020 on Car Guru that was listed above MSRP. Below is their response on 12/7
"Thank you for your request. We got in 10 corvette's Friday. 4 of the 10 have sold and don't expect the others to last long.
All unsold 20s are going for more than MSRP
coupe MSRP plus 15000.
Convertible MSRP plus 20000.
They have already turned down many offers. But feel free to make one
But the four above that sold . Sold at numbers mentioned
They also refused a courtesy delivery for me. No real loss since I was able to find a nearby dealer who is happy to do it for $350.
I don't know how people like that stay in business. Only game in town I guess.
I get that these are business people in the game to make money, but this is robbery.
GM obviously underpriced this car -- demand is so out of whack compared to supply. Hate to say it, but they should raise MSRP $5k and see what that does to demand.
Forgive me, but...
Agreed $5K or $10K more is not going to slow down the people that want one, so ....
Why on earth would GM accept an assembly plant being down because of parts? Someone is clearly out of their mind, you can sell every one you build. Bring ALL parts production to the United States, jack up the price. Wentzville Assembly, Colorado & Canyon, run six or seven days a week, 24/7, parts ain't slowing this plant down. How would anyone explain this and who would accept this as an answer, parts shortage.
