Intertcity delivered my 2020 3lt htc Tuesday at 5 pm. Tried it out on Wednesday - everything fine, except NO SOUND. No radio, no warning chimes, no directional light clicker, etc. etc. Decided to bring it in after the holidays. Took it out today, and as the odometer registered 100 miles (coincidence?) a pre-set 75mph chime sounded. Suddenly everything worked - radio, directional clicker, chimes, voice directions on navigation, etc. Thanks, Santa.

@2014greenstingray - A wild guess here, but perhaps your C8 was still in "Transport Mode" (reduces electrical power and other settings for shipping, see link below) which was not deactivated during PDI and then it automatically "timed-out" at 100-miles as you experienced. That's my guess and possibly something to explore if others experience a similar situation immediately after their C8 delivery. -Rick

Congrats on your new C8 and hope it was just a glitch in the system.

@R & K C8 This is useful information about Transport Mode, especially since I can find nothing about it in the owner's manual.

Next obvious question - can you put the car into the "Transport Mode" Seems that might be useful for winter (or other) storage.

@/Bear/ & @manecda - Thank you both, I was just sharing a wild guess on what @2014greenstingray might have experienced. The "Transport Mode" notification on the Driver Information Center (DIC) display should have been really obvious, but he and the Dealer PDI Tech might have been too caught-up in the delivery moment to notice it. I guess "Transport Mode" isn't in the Owners Manual because it is disengaged at the Dealer during PDI, so the owner doesn't ever have to worry about.

@johnodrake - I seem to remember a discussion on how to re-engage "Transport Mode" for owners who trailer their C8's, but I don't remember exactly where I saw that discussion.

Amazing all the stuff I got to learn about while patiently waiting for "our train to come in" with our 2020 C8. -Rick

It was posted somewhere that there is a bulletin on transport mode, #20-NA-157. To activate transport mode:

Start car, activate hazard flashers, press and hold start button.

To de-activate, repeat the process.

I haven’t tried it yet.

Welcome to what is essentially a computer on wheels... and, they can and do sometimes glitch. You may see the same issue tomorrow or not in 20 years (the latter as happened with one on my C5). ENJOY!

@ZL-1 - Excellent, thank you for providing those activate "Transport Mode" instructions, conveniently the same as the deactivation instructions... just that easy-peasy .

Out of curiosity, if someone can activate "Transport Mode" on their C8 (the earlier video showed a long-ish start button hold-time until the notification appeared on the DIC) and check if items such as "...radio, directional clicker, chimes, voice directions on navigation, etc...." are inoperative/silent, then that was probably what happened earlier to OP @2014greenstingray . -Rick

Thanks. From the Bulletin

Transport Mode is enabled by activating the hazard flashers, applying the brake pedal, and then turning the ignition key to the start position or pushing the ignition mode switch with the foot on the brake for greater than 15 seconds. The mode is disabled by repeating the previous process. The DIC (if equipped) will display Transport Mode On when enabled and Transport Mode Off when disabled. For vehicles not equipped with a DIC, the battery indicator light will constantly flash on the instrument cluster when Transport Mode is On. This feature can be used as many times as necessary if the vehicle is to be stored for an extended period of time.

This is great! Maybe someone who is currently storing their C8 could try activating Transport Mode and let us know if it went as expected.

I suppose if you're storing for the winter, you'd still want a battery tender on it, but with Transport Mode activated, it may be less necessary.

@johnodrake - Thank you for sharing more content from the Bulletin that confirms "Transport Mode" is suitable for extended storage use/re-use... very good information.

And as I mentioned before, I remember reading that "Transport Mode" could also be useful when towing a C8 because it apparently deactivates the alarm's motion/incline sensors to keep the alarm from triggering during the tow.

Bottom-line is that "Transport Mode" is a very handy mode/feature for all C8 Owners to be aware of... thanks for everyone's contributions.

Good idea, but apparently not the answer. The TRANSPORT MODE message was not - is not- displayed. Took car out for 4-hr trip on Friday, and it is silent again (entire trip). I don't normally name my cars, but I'm calling this one Harpo (Horn works, otherwise silent). Sent message to MacMulkin asking for suggestions before I take it to local dealership for warranty repair. All systems work (except without sound). Loose connection to speakers? Hope this does not mean inside dash must be disassembled to get at something.

@2014greenstingray - Thank you for reporting back and sorry to hear that your C8 is still giving you the silent treatment... LOL on adopting the nick-name "Harpo"... too funny, and hopefully the fix for your C8 will be an easy one. A small up-side of your situation is forum folks got the learn a lot more about "Transport Mode", just sorry it wasn't the easy explanation/fix for "Harpo's" condition.

Best wishes for getting "Harpo's" voice/sounds back soon, although your C8 might need a new nick-name as a result .

-Rick

BTW / off-topic: we are NM "ex-pats", so we were tickled to see your Santa Fe location. We really miss the food (eating at La Choza & Tomasita's in SF are favorite spots) and the abundant sunshine, but glad to avoid the COVID which we hear has been really bad there recently... take care of yourself.

I had the same problem; no radio, no directional (blinker) sound, no audio whatsoever. Happened when I had just 90 miles on the odometer. The audio amp fried! Dealer ordered a new one and it arrived in two days. Been fine ever since. Tell your dealer to refer to Document ID 5389145. Here is what was written on my receipt:

“Scanned vehicle for codes, found U0186, B1A23, U3002, U0209, B129D and U1009 in modules throughout vehicle. Contacted TAC, was told to check power and ground going to vehicle’s amplifier (located under passenger’s footwell area). Confirmed good power and ground leading to amplifier
. Recommend replacing audio amplifier to correct issue. Remove/replace amplifier per Document ID 5389145. Reinstalled all removed parts and programmed new amplifier .”
