Polarized sunglasses significantly cut down the reflection and have minimal impact on the C8 HUD. However, they make the HUD unusable in my wife's Avalon.

Instead of the black hand towel, what about buying a piece of black felt and cutting it to size that fits across the dash. It's thin, it's flexible, and you can pull it off the dash when you get wherever you're going , roll it up and place it out of sight.

Inexpensive solution......

No thanks; Polarized lenses work just fine for me and have for every such vehicle I've owned for decades.

So you option it with a tan interior and then buy a cheap black towel to place over the dash. Why not just get a black dash to begin with?

People want all these flashy options but forget that simple is best. So many cringe worthy upgrades on these cars it is embarrassing what some corvette owners do.

For the folks commenting on polarized glasses and who may not have their C8 yet: It appears Chevrolet changed the polarization axis of the HUD in the C8 by 90degrees.

That is, with my polarized glasses on, the Hud in my 2015 C7 and 2017 Camaro would disappear almost completely. In the C8 its just as bright with the glasses on or off. But if I tilt my head to the side it does start to fade. So that tells me they appeared to have rotated the polarization.

@Hillslam great to know! Thank you.

As for the black towel, I realize you bought a car that wasn’t your specific order due to its availability but my goodness, I’d learn to live with the glare vs. a towel. Do you have a towel on the armrests too to protect them from wear?

Exactly. Take your sunglasses and hold them up to your computer. If you rotate them 90' they screen should darken when looking thru a lens and it should look "normal" if the glasses are horizontal. If you see the opposite, they ground your lenses 90' off or the manufacturer put the polarized coating on wrong.

I'm sorry but that doesn't appear to solve the problem for anyone who just waited for over a year to get their dream car only to throw a towel on the dash. I don't want to be that guy but COME ON. You can't hope to join in with the higher end cars and have that be your solution to glare on the dash.

This is why the corvette community has such great stereotypes.

Where the dash glare is the "Brightest" on drivers side is around the HUD surround it's self portion of it.
The glare is not as bad on the windshield starting at about where your towel is placed. If you can tune out the HUD's surround glare, you should be able to tune out the less bright area of the glare. The only problem I have now is when driving were the sun's light is hitting the windshield between trees. That cause a distracting flickering effect, especially early in the morning & late afternoon.

By the way, have you tried driving at night into oncoming traffic headlights....yet?

Solid black dash also has windshield glare too. Just not as noticeable as when you have a two tone dash HUD surround.
Windshield angle of attack plays a major part in glare issue.

That Picture is not a good judgement of interior's windshield glare. The camera's lens coating doesn't even allow the HUD display to show on windshield. It also make the glare more pronounced, even in the areas where the dash is Black.

Would be interesting to see the amount of a black dash's glare on windshield. I know what it looks like in a video posted on subject early on. If the Black Glare was anything like what it was in that picture, the driver could not see the road in front of him....

The real bottom line here its GMs poor execution of the dash top that is causing this.

Here is exactly how a Black Dash can look on windshield. Major difference between the glare, is the Sunlight's angle hitting dash.

Same car going under the bridge you see ahead in the 1st one.

Better but not by much it seems in some lighting situations.

Lol yes, the reason why Dashboards should be Black.. I had a 911 C4 years ago with a full natural leather dash, the reflections from it were blinding on sunny days. My C8 has the 3LT natural interior, but not the natural dipped so I have the Black steering wheel cowl, but I still see occasional reflections from the natural leather off to the side. Also the fairly extreme rake of the C8 windshield adds to the reflections, nothing to do about that

Why not do what I do. Just drive only at night !!

OMG, really ? This is a TROLL thread. Of all people, I should know a troll thread if I ever see one. ( being a troll myself)

You could always just look at the road ahead during the day and ignore the reflection, as I do in my dipped Natural 3LT.

OMG, this is a TROLL THREAD 100% , Even I could not pull off anyone believing that I put a towel on my dash while driving to avoid reflections. I would be laughed off the thread.

This is a TROLL THREAD. I should have thought this one up........Love the emotional upset.
