Holding Out
I’m currently in a C5 and looking to step up to the C8 because it’s so awesome to me! I refuse to pay over sticker price and I dread being on a waiting list for a year, or more. I like to see and feel what I’m buying too. I’m wondering how many are holding out for prices to be “realistic” in the used market like myself? Any guesses when supply will surpass demand? Driving me nuts.
I love my CE C5 but made the jump and ordered a few weeks ago. Reality sucks. I wish I ordered last month! It may already (probably) be too late to get a 21.
I'm sure there will be some used on the market within a year, but slim pickens.

Getting on a list is a no brainer and might get you a car faster than waiting for used prices to fall, and there is nothing to lose as your deposit should be refundable up to order. Then go to a cars and coffee and look over any C8s that show up, or maybe a stealership near you has one on the floor with a $50k ADM you can look over.

I predict that there will be a used market for the base Stingray once the Z06 starts actually hitting the streets. So maybe a year from now is my prediction on when you will start seeing "reasonably priced" used C8's (that means under original MSRP)...

I ordered thru a small Midwest dealer. Order placed last Feb, TPW is next week, I was next on their 2020 list last March when Covid hit. No deposit made and buying at MSRP. Call around, you may find a dealer with a small list and get lucky on a quick order.
I'm not sure we will see a "reasonably priced" used market any time soon given the demand..2020 was all sold out 2021 nearing that of maybe already there.Sure some stingray owners will see their 20 and21s for the 22 Z-06. but I expect that the Stingray will have a price increase in 2022, thus keeping the used market out of the reasonable priced arena. But that's anybodies' guess at this time.

Then, you have several months to look around and get a feel for what you want by the methods mentioned above. By this Summer, there will be +/- 20k more C8s in the wild for you to see at the various petting zoos. That should scratch your itch to kick the tires.
And as far as saving money, you should save some money by ordering only what you want. Should you not be a fan of Z51, front lift, 3LT/2LT etc, you may find yourself paying extra for options you don't care for to be able to buy one from dealer stock whenever that day (18-24 months or more?) comes.

Waiting because you don’t want to wait makes no sense. Don’t fall for the trap I used to do and wait for prices to come down. Corvettes have always held value so it takes forever to get a cheap used one and it’s typically a generation or so old by then.
Just order one now and you’ll have plenty of time to evaluate if that was the right choice before your deposit becomes non refundable.
As a former C5 owner I can tell you anything else will feel like a step up. You’re driving a car that was designed when Clinton was President. A lot has changed in the past 24 years. As much as I loved the C5’s squeaky interior, huge panel gaps, candles for headlights, and excessive road noise, it was time to step out of the cave. It was great for it’s day, but that’s not saying much.

Thanks everyone for all of the advice! Kick myself for waiting so long, but it is what it is. I’ve seen a couple on showroom floors ~40k over sticker, but haven’t sat in one yet. I’m near Springfield, Ohio and see Toy barn in Columbus has a few used. I may make a trip there to get the “feel” and perhaps move toward an order. I have no problem with used, just the inflation issue bothers me because it’s simply blown cash.
If waiting for it now is driving you nuts, just think of how you'll feel in 2 years when there is still a high demand. The new variants will only drive the prices higher and they will not be getting deals on the base stingray for at least another year. None of us knows what the future brings so I would make the choice to either pay it with time or pay it with dollars. You're going to pay either way

Order at macmulkin at msrp.
The C8 is my seventh Corvette. Never sat in any of them before purchasing. Maybe it’s because I’m “medium” size (5’11” and 175 lbs) so I’ve never had a fitment issue. Come to think of it, I also bought my Jeep without sitting in it. I just don’t see the need.
I put a deposit down 6 months ago and my order just got processed. Until a week ago, I could have changed my mind and got my deposit back. Not a bad deal when I know it will be worth more than when I pay MSRP for it.
The time is going to go by, you should order one tomorrow and it will happen and you'll get exactly what you want. I ordered a day and a half after reveal, I told my wife we have nothing to lose, if I don't like it I can sell it for what I have in it, never dreamed I could sell it for more. I certainly never drove one, in fact my last fun car was a Mustang GT, I looked at the car and bought it. I had my wife drive it home and she asked me if had driven it, I said no, never driven a Mustang before. She said you just bought a car you've never driven? I said, they've made over 9 million of them, how bad could it be. With the C8, how many posts have you read by actual owners that haven't been over the moon with how it drives? I haven't read a one, your apprehension is way too strong, just order your new car and enjoy it.
