Default engine compartment

Waiting for my convertable c8...so excited and reading the manual to see what she has..Forgive if this has been asked but I have only seen one video, and thaT took forever to fine, that shows how to get access to the engine compartment . . You use the key fob , press close and quickly press the top open..Then the top will open to allow access. Is there any other way to open this, like a switch inside or is this the only way???
I can not believe it is so hard to find out how to do this...You should ck. your oil level often..
My c7 had issues with a foul plug and I had to change it twice...Boy.. to get to the engine there are18 screws to remove to be able to remove the engine cover to get to the engine..
GM why not put that cover on with hinges and twist lockdowns so it could be easy to remove for engine access'
I hope to get mine sometime in august. I was told I am 8 orders away from GM getting my order.
Thanks for any info...

Because the C8 headers go up and not down as is typical, it is actually easier to access most items from under the car, not from the top. That includes the spark plugs, serpentine belt, etc.

You can just use the convertible top control on the driver's door. Push on it until the tonneau is up, then let go and the motion will stop there. But really, you consider pushing 2 buttons HARD?

As Zymurgy said almost all maintenance other than adding and checking oil is done from under the car. And you don't need to remove the heat shield to check or add oil. Accessing the air filter is through the trunk. Probably the only time you'll remove the heat shield is just to look at what's underneath it.

You may want to do some checking on that. Good luck with August.

Makes having a QuickJack or a 2 or 4 post lift in your garage more important than ever.

Yup, actually easiest through the rear wheel well. Take off the rear wheels, remove the wheel house liner and it's right there. I took this pic from underneath with the belly pan removed while on my QuickJack.

I haven't researched, but if the C8 is like most vehicles (not exactly I know), plugs last 100,000 miles +/- . So the requirement to get under for this event will probably fall on the next owner(s) from what I've seen here. So and don't worry.

If your dealership says your order has not been placed with GM yet, It's very doubtful that you would get your car in August. If your order was placed in April, you would get it in July/August (from what we know now). GM has given dealers any May, June, July allocations (yet), and they might not have any to give out for May or June. So if you are on a dealership waiting list, best case scenario, is that your order gets placed in July for a 2022 model. If that is the case, you can maybe expect your car in October.

If you do not have an allocation yet, you have two chances of getting a 21.
Slim and none.
I am very close to getting an allocation, but until we hear about May, my chances are the same.

Does you dealer have an allocation for you? Do you have an order status? If not, you are not getting your car until very late fall at best. Even then probably not. Ask your dealer these questions.

Depends on what is meant by "made the order."

If that means you gave the dealer a deposit, then it all depends on how big a waiting list and how many allocations your dealer got for February, March and April. Most dealers have many more people on their waiting list than they have allocations.

If that means your dealer entered your order into GM Workbench software, matched it to an allocation, and you got an order # and an order sheet showing status at 2000 or higher, then you'll get your car probably by the end of May or early June.

Yes it does feel strange knowing there is an engine back there somewhere but never seeing it, if you have ever owned a Cayman you will have gotten used to it, but Porsche takes the human-mechanical interaction back even a step further by deleting the dipstick! At least we have that with the C8s.

Would be nice if chevy designed the engine cover with quarter turn fasteners instead of screws (like you see on aircraft cowlings and access panels), obviously cost is the deterrent - Quarter Turn Fastener

I was told that as of today I am 8 away from the dealer giving my order to gm...He says he gets an allocation of 4-5 cars a month. I have the 1100 order number..??????
Thanks for your input...
