We just returned from a weekend in Sunriver in central Oregon. I still can't get over how comfortable this car is on longer trips. Each way is about 4 hours and even with no stops we arrived each time no worse for wear than when we started. On the way back I happened to notice that between traffic going around 60 mph most of the time and then a construction zone that brought us down to a 40 mph zone for about 20 miles or so, the trip computer for the current trip after an hour and a half of driving and over 70 miles showed 37 MPG. Like a lot of others have pointed out on this car you really cannot tell when the car switches between V8 and V4 mode when driving without looking down on the display.
At highway speeds, my best over the past 50 miles has been about 29.3 mpg. If anyone didn't know, you can change the distance over which it does it's calculation in the dash.
It's a lot more fun if you can get your average to 1/10th of that.
That may be higher math for some.
In V4 at lower speeds (30-50) mpg is significantly higher. I don't think it is due to aerodynamics; curious how large (wider) tires affect mpg as one goes faster. If typical passenger size tires were installed, mpg would be almost 40% higher on the highway.
It's a lot more fun if you can get your average to 1/10th of that.
LOL. So true. I look forward to lower numbers in the future now that I am through break in. I was just rather amazed that it went so high even given the light driving conditions. It didn't stay that high for long after we were back up to 65 mph for a while. It went all the way down to 35.6 mpg after another couple hours.
