Default UPDATE: HTC Problems

It’s happened a few times now but today was the worse. First time was around 600 miles. Said top not secure. Went up snd down a few times and finally got it. A few weeks later same thing.

Then day, went to put it down lid flips up and that’s it. Tried a few times, same thing. Turned car on and off. Finally went down. BUT now won’t secure up or down. Played with it for probably 45 minutes.

It’s currently “up” but not latched, I can pick it up. Need help Bc I do not trust any garage around me lol

thanks

"Cut A Hole In The Headliner To Access The Allen Wrench Hole In The Motor" Why didn't GM just have a small plastic access plug, maybe even covered with the same headliner material to be practically unnoticeable. . The warranty cost of a new headliner could have paid for a **** load of plugs!

It could be due to multiple possibilities or issues... most likely it failed to latch the top properly when you close it, or there's a reduced mechanical force by the top moving actuators or arms, or one of the sensors didn't pick up the proper position of the top, etc.

While my C8 HTC top currently has no issues in terms of moving up and down, I did have similar issue with the soft top on my Nissan 350Z convertible in the past, where after the long and raining winter season where the top was not in use for quite some time, then when I operated it for the first time in spring, it sometime wouldn't go fully open or close, with the actuator arms moving at a slower speed compared to the frequent use time during the summer, and this caused it to latch properly. So what I did was, spray some WD40 on the actuator arm joints and gears, to make them lubricated and moving more freely, and that always fixed the problem and the top worked properly after that. So in a remote chance that your HTC top arm joints no longer moves freely, try this same method and see if it improves things, although you'd think that joints lubrication shouldn't be reduced that faster at only 600 miles.

If it's not the actuator arm joints and gears reducing lubrication issue, than it could be one of the latch sensor issues, or even the arms are out of alignment, in which case you should bring the car to a Chevy dealer where they have trained C8 technicians for warranty repair or sensor replacement, not just any "garage".

Good luck!

I have a friend who got an early 2020 and he had a sensor fail. Personally I would have visited the dealer on the second fail.

I've put my top up and down literally hundreds of times (I'm not exaggerating) so when they sort this out it can be reliable.

Below is a screen shot from my invoice when I was having issues with my top. As you can see, it was quite a process and the dealership had the car for 3 weeks.

I wish you luck and it sounds like you'll be making a trip to the dealer.

With all the mis-spelled words, perhaps the code was in error as well.

Just today when I got back home from driving around with the top down the top will not secure in the closed position. It works fine and secures when the top is down but will not clear when closing. I have tried to get it to lock several times but still receive a message that the top is not secure. My car is a 2021 HTC with a little over 3000 miles on it. Today is the first time I've had any issue with the top. Luckily I only live a few miles from the dealership. I will be calling them tomorrow.

Being the message says the top is not secure, is it?
I mean, is the top actually secure, but the message says otherwise?
Is the car okay to drive it to the dealer?
Thank you

Today it worked as should

But no last night I could pick up the front corners a few inches. Definitely wasn’t secure. And the car is limited to 58 mpg when this occurs as so

Got my HTC last week and while mine doesn’t do this, it sometimes stops randomly half way through the sequence (up or down) even though I’m holding the button down. It only stops for a second or 2 and then continues on.

Hoping mine is limited to 58mpg too. Should save on gas!

Seriously though starting to worry a little. Have owed SLKs for 13 years and the HTC was always reliable. Little worried Chevy didnt engineer their HTC mechanisms quite as well as the mercs I've seen/owned.

The HTC was designed and is actually built by the same company the designs and builds HTCs for many of the worlds exotics, including Ferrari.

Luckily our great family friend owns the Chevy dealership, so we can always trust whatever work they do is done well and I’m not getting scammed, but agree, still a pain lol.. I’ll prob drop it off when I go visit my gf and will be out of town for a week. (Also going to get ceramic coated while I’m gone) so I don’t have to worry about missing driving days while it’s in the shop
