Hey DCL.
I believe we were in the same class with you & your two sons. This is Thomas. I was in the row behind you. Ditto on the first class operation. No worries with the dry heat. What an amazing learning experience. I recommend this it to anyone at any skill level. The course price of $1000 is a huge bargain. Just the transportation is the expense.to absorb.
I wish I could go again at this price.

If dice roll right, I'm in for a 2022 for late fall... definitely doing this...

A few questions.... what airport,?... Is transport arranged, and what hotel to stay in?

Thanks

If you call them they can work through the details, but we flew into Las Vegas which is ~45 min drive and you'll need to rent a car or arrange some other way of getting there. They have condos on site and serve breakfast and lunch.

I’d like to add that the most common objection to attending the Corvette Owners School I’ve heard is, “I don’t plan to track my car, so it would just be a waste of money.” Au contraire. Physics is physics, on the track or on the street. Every minute in the classroom and on the track will make you a better driver on the street. Knowing what you and your car are capable of may give you the skill and confidence to take effective evasive action to avoid an accident. Performance driver training has done it for me and other people I know.

I'm booked for the 29th and 30th of July... Will be hot but I don't care, I'm pumped.

Been reading up on tips and/or suggestions but if anyone has any pearls of wisdom... "I wish I knew X before I went" sort of things, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

Exactly! This is the short (and I hope it's powerful enough) review I left for the Ron Fellows School on their Instagram. That Figure-8 exercise is the most useful thing you would walk away from the course if you're not going to track the car! If you don't know how to get out of sticky situation, you will crash if you don't know how to correct the slide when you decide to show-off while pulling out of a car show with traction control turned off! And yes, the same skill I would eventually learn from this course is the same that had saved my life when I almost skid off the mountain side of US-40 Colorado Berthoud Pass on icy patch in a rental pickup truck.

Other excuses: "I need to get aftermarket wheels" --- Sorry, if you can afford aftermarket wheels or carbon fiber tidbits, you can afford this course at $1,000 or $800 - and if you don't spend it on this course first, you get your life priority upside down!

Have paddle shifting be second nature.

I had a manual Miata then got a C7 automatic. I hadn't driven my C7 much before I went to Spring Mountain and much of the time wasn't spent in manual mode. I had to think about shifting more than I liked. We were told to short shift the C7s, I don't know where they recommend shifting the C8s.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm heading out there next weekend. This is a bucket list item for me and I can't wait to get some quality instruction / seat time.

Heat will be ok as I've been told they run car ac.

I'm booked for the Level 1 Class in November. This will be my 2nd time to Spring Mountain, and I'm excited to go back and take it to the next level. It won't disappoint.

I don't know if you are serious or not but, yes, they provide the cars. That is one of the advantages since you get to thrash something other than your own car.

For Corvette owners school and any Level 1 course you must use the supplied cars from Spring Mountain.

We were told that for Level 2 and above you can use your own car, provided it passes tech.

Thanks for the info! I was planning to drive my own car, but would prefer to drive theirs, which will be race prepared and inspected. I'd also rather wear out their brakes and tires.

I’ll second getting used to using the paddle shifters, I spent way too much time thinking about it. Mostly in 3rd and 4th on the North track.

Stay hydrated, take advantage of the complementary water and Gatorade.

If you’re low on headroom with the helmet ask for a clear roof panel it will give you more room.

The school provides a free SD card for the car you can take home. I wish I’d taken it from my car after the first day and watched the PDR footage before the 2nd day. I think it would have helped my driving the next day.

Eat at Carmelos Bistro… hole in the wall in Pahrump, but fantastic Italian food.

Enjoy!!!
