Default Tool recommendations/suggestions

I used to work on my cars before I started leasing, some 15 yrs ago. Now that I've got a new C8 that I purchased, I'd like to get back into doing some of my regular maintenance. I'm ordering a QuickJack so that I can comfortably work on the car, since I don't have the room for a real lift.

I'd like to get some recommendations for tools, such as torque wrenches, any tools necessary for oil filter changes, etc..

I haven't purchased automotive tools in a while so I'm not sure what's good and what's junk. I don't trust Amazon reviews so I'm looking for suggestions from fellow owners.

Thanks!

Just to get you going here are a few that are handy to have. The oil filter wrench truly fits a PF64 oil filter. The fasteners on the belly pan are Torx Plus E. The lug socket is the one I have, but some like the longer version.

I see you’re in the Miami / West Palm Beach area. I’d look for a local automative parts / tools chain, like AutoZone and get one of their tool kits with a Lifetime warranty, like their Duralast line. If you ever break a tool, just bring it back and they’ll give you a free replacement, well, as long as AutoZone stays in business. Make sure you keep the receipt, probably best to get it laminated so it doesn’t disintegrate over time.

Here’s a kit that should cover most jobs - https://www.autozone.com/ratchets-so...iece/52378_0_0

Hope you ordered the QuickJack XL. While the regular length one will work, it's too short to reach both front and rear jacking pucks. See:

Thanks @BIG Dave I figured I'd pick up some stuff locally and really just needed some guidance. I'm rusty but I'm looking forward to getting to know my car better and not rely on the dealer for regular maintenance. Just piece of mind. I'll let them do the 7500 mile work.

@DSOMrulz Yes, I'm getting the XL but I'm also thinking of holding out for the new, taller model that's coming out soon. I'll take the extra 4 or so inches of height.

Get a nice power nut driver. Really helps with all the panel fasteners on the car.
I have the equivalent of this. I have a LOW garage and being able to get the car up 3 feet in the air is night and day from lying on your back like a peasant. (like I spent my life doing)

I would recommend a very high quality fender cover with very soft underside. Snap on are good tools if don't mind the rape wagon. Nepros, makes some very high quality tools as well. Good lights are a plus.

Don’t laugh but Harbor Freight “Icon” series tools are rated pretty high against the competition.

You have that Bendpak or similar? I was looking at ordering the new Quickjack that's coming (taller unit).
That Bendpak looks like it's conveniently higher. Just need to see if it's long enough to reach the C8's jack points.

Regarding the E-Torx Plus sockets, the bolts securing the bottom covers have low profile heads. This means that sockets with a chamfer may have to be ground to remove the chamfer so they don't strip the heads.
There are special low profile E-Torx Plus socket sets but they are expensive. This socket set appears to have minimal chamfer:

Check it out - 24 k gold plated! Still a tenth of snap on. But I still would take the snap on.

Have you checked the minimum height to make sure it will fit under a C8 with jack pads?

It's supposed to still have the same height as their current models. Just goes a little higher up than the current ones.
