My newly ordered C8 is supposed to be in the dealership next week and I've been discussing price with them. The dealership is selling me the car at MSRP...however, they informed me that there is a fee of a little over $900 they always charge on new vehicles. This is not for registration or transportation/shipping. He said they don't do the add on expenses like some dealerships (tinted windows, undercoating, etc.), but do have this flat fee they add on every new car. Honestly, I've waited so long to get this car (as everyone does right now), and I'm not willing to go elsewhere and wait longer or pay 10k to 40k over MSRP for the car. Having said that, does anyone out there think I should push back on this a bit? Thanks.
If they always have had this fee, I would say some of this lands on you while doing your due diligence. If it has just started in the last two months, they should have at least made you aware when it became effective. A doc fee is not always there , but it's more common than not. Most are $300-$400. If you're out another $500 in this market I would consider myself lucky. Enjoy the car, by the time you get home you will have completely forgotten about the extra $500.

Exactly! It’s ridiculous but too common these days. Most dealers are filing everything electronically and this is just another layer.
Wife bought a palisade last year. We’re in sc so I called about 4 or 5 dealers within a drive. All at msrp but doc fees all over, one over a grand. I said I’d buy at msrp if you budge off doc fees, no one would.
when it becomes a buyers market we may have leverage, but not now.
I believe MM had a doc fee, but if I recall they backed the fee out of the MSRP, so essentially you weren't paying the fee (above MSRP) but it was listed on your paperwork.
If you finance the vehicle via the dealership, they will make some points on the interest you pay. They always have a "deal" with the bank.
In Virginia, every dealer has a "doc fee" that runs around $600. That's a fee they apply to every car they sell.
Not true. I ordered my C8 from a VA dealer that has no doc fee. We have one that advertises everyday on TV down here that they have no doc fees so not all VA dealers have a doc or processing fee.
Thanks for all the responses. It sounds like even though there may be dealerships out there that do not charge a fee like this, it is pretty common. It is a bit more than I would like to pay for such a fee, but not enough to keep me from buying. And like a couple of you have alluded to, we're in a different market right now. I'll pay it and try to forget and just enjoy the car.
I paid almost $4,000 in sales tax and still have the same shitty roads to beat my new car to pieces on. Sometimes we don't get much for some things we pay for. Enjoy the car.

I paid MSRP + a $249 doc fee. Doc fees have been around since I bought my first car decades ago. I always assumed that covered all the back office staff involved with paperwork. $900 is extremely excessive. Like others have said, try to find out if that fee has truly existed longer than your C8 order, AND if it applies to all cars. Not so that you can do anything about it for this transaction, but for me, it would give me insight into whether I would ever consider a future purchase from this dealer.
Totally agree with you. You are where you are, regardless of how you got here. So close to the finish line. I would pay it as well, and as you said, forget about it and enjoy the car. I can't stay out of mine: 6k miles in less than 3 months.......
You've waited this long to get your car at MSRP. Be grateful and just swallow the doc fee. They could have easily been snakes and added a market adjustment at the last second. There's plenty of horror stories on this forum about that exact practice. Doc fees suck and it's likely extortion but dealerships have been doing this since the dawn of time.

So they add $900 on "every" car they sell? Or just Corvettes all of a sudden? Plus you have to pay a Doc fee. They can spin it anyway they want but it's a "Market" adjustment fee (profit) plain and simple.
Doc fees are a joke to sell a car you have to fill out the paperwork. Imagine going to Home Depot and they tell you we have to charge you a fee to get a receipt.
You're lucky it's only $900 where other dealers are getting $10K-$20K over MSRP.

I got hit for $995 add-on "fee" for tinted windows (which I got), N2 in tires, wheel locks, and some other items like running boards on a vette! Same add-on back in 2016 on my vette then. So it is not new. Just sort of sneaky the way the dealers do it. Enjoy the car, it is worth it all.
While sitting at my dealer and getting everything processed, I was kinda worried that they would spring something on me. As a sat there I was wondering what would I do if they came out and said there was an ADM. After a quiet internal debate, I thought I would probably pay up to a 5k adm after waiting so long and seeing the car for the first time. Luckily everything was smooth with no unexpected surprises.
Dealer fees are big in Florida. The dealers will try to tell you they are non-negotiable, and by the letter of the law, they are. Dealers do not have to charge a dealer fee, it is optional, but if a dealer does charge a dealer fee then every single car the dealer sells has to pay the same dealer fee, that's the law. But the dealer can discount the car equal to the amount of the dealer fee. But in this crazy market, dealers are not discounting anything, so no real deals to be had.
All the local Chevy dealers charge a dealer fee, so no getting out of it around here. I ordered from MM, and they do that thing where they discount the car equal to the dealer fee, which is nice of them honestly. But if I want to do a courtesy delivery local to me, its about $900-1000. So I am still stuck paying a BS fee. That's why I am planning to do museum delivery... its still $1000 but at least I get a cool experience out of it.
I just came back from my local dealer. They have a white c8 for 30k over msrp. I asked about z06 and they said minimum 50k ADM. He also tried to tell me i couldn't find a better deal.
Glad my deposit is with MM.
Considering the market, 900 is nothing to even take a second look at. Enjoy your new car.
