Zoro Duntov said rumors sell magazines!!! GM has more orders than they can fill what financial sense would it make to redesign the interior on a car they can't build fast enough?
Looks like Michael Simcoe is over EXTERIOR design for GM NA. Not sure what someone over exterior has to do with the interior.
The information I found is in 2017 he was made Chief head designer for all of GM. My opinion is if they remove the wall and add climate controls to touch screen, that would be a big mistake. Like everyone has said, why mess with a successful design.

His title is head of GM design. He's high up in the GM food chain and is not pleased with the buttress. This was the topic of the day back in February this year. If change came it wouldn't happen 'til 2025 according to reports.

The articles refer to the rear exterior changes for 2025 and the wall for 2023.

Please make the Great Wall lights brighter. With HTC top down and a sunny day, with sunglasses, I can't see the little lights to tell if ..Yadda Yadda ... is on or not.
and we are told that Duntov didn’t like the split window design on the 63 (the first fixed roof coupe).
Doubt that. He was into the whole stingray motif and that’s what the split window was intended to emulate. Same with the C3 with the shark thing going on. Dude was into sports cars that looked like sea animals.
it was the customers who didn’t like the split window.

Michael Simcoe didn't like the design of the wall.

There was really just one article that reported that, and a whole bunch of other sites that repeated that one unsourced, unverified, unattributed rumor. Why would GM spend millions to redesign and retool the console when they have more orders than they can possibly meet? GM's R&D money isn't going into redesigning cars already completed, it's going into new cars. Future Corvette models, but mostly electric cars.

The touchscreen already has climate controls for those who don't want to use the buttons.

Personally I don't think it would be a good business decision to make an interior redesign change for this generation. I get a sense that someone may have overheard Michael comment about his beliefs regarding the wall but I doubt that GM was ever seriously considering this idea. I've read all the articles you did. GM has so much work on its plate right know with supply chain issues, product conversions to EV's, and numerous other topics. Wall redesign is not a high priority for GM now, or in 2023, or in 2025.
