Default C8 Remire start

I wanted to know that if once you finish your one month trial of OnStar do you loose the ability to remotely start your car (via phone app) and check status ? I was able to have that feature with my C7 w/o extending my OnStar subscription. Is this something new?
Thanks !

You have to sign up for a basic package, it's like $12.95 a month, but they will discount it to $9.95 and you can suspend it over the winter if you live somewhere that you won't drive the car for a few months.

Funny, my Ford F150, that costs less than half of this car, remote starts off an app on my phone with no monthly fees...

Toyota charges $8/month to remote start your car using the key fob after a 3 to 10-year included subscription ends and that is non-transferable if the car is sold. No internet connection required, not server to maintain... just the fob communicating directly with the car and they want to charge you $8 a month for the capability!

Worth, at most, $9.95/YEAR for me. I'll just get close enough to use the fob on the very rare occasions I'll even want to use remote start. In 3 weeks of ownership I've only done it twice. Once to show off and once to play a joke on someone...

The only reason I considered it was so if I went into a restaurant and didn't recall locking the car, I could do it from my phone without running around near a window to see if the lights flash on the car.

Gotta admit; I'm having a tough time seeing the value proposition there .

The basic package that includes remote start does include some other features, too. Still don't believe it's worth the cost, but it's not just remote start.

Are you the following features free or require an Onstar plan?
1. Locate vehicle
2. Program vehicle location so that if the vehicle leaves it will alert my phone
