Default High Wing Backorders?

Anyone out there who had a recent build date (say, after Jan 10) and can advise whether the high wing option is available or on backorder? My Z51 HTC was built on 1/20 and had the high wing option checked (color-matched in torch red). Dealer says he won't be able to tell me what is happening until the car actually shows up (since it is an LPO option and apparently gets shipped separately for installation during PDI). Complicated situation for me because I am buying the car from an out of state dealer so it would be tough to return there once the part comes in. Any insights on this would be appreciated!

If your car is being delivered to that out of state dealer, yep that is where the wing will be sent- probably by the vendor. Dealer installed options that are not ever installed in BG are NOT stocked in BG.

BG would be foolish to take the time and manpower to receive the high wing (etc) have move folks put it on a shelf in BG, then spend more manpower to bring it to a shipping dock where a "Brown Truck" would take it to a depot where other Brown Trucks bring it to the town your dealer is located. Much easier and cheaper for a BG Computer to send a message to the vendor's computer when your car starts on the assembly line saying, send ADC distributor XYZ part and put this VIN on the package. Yep, same Brown Truck will delivery it from the Vendor to the dealer receiving your car as if it came from BG.

That is how my 2017 Grand Sport Stage 2 Aero Option arrived at my Courtesy Delivery dealer's parts department a week or so before my car arrived. It's how my C8 high wing would have gotten to the same dealer IF it had not been constrained for my 2020 C8 two weeks before it was built. In my case, Kerbeck, where I bought my C8 (and my 2017 GS and C6) was not charged for the high wing so it was deducted from what I owed. Turned out I like the Z51 wing that it came with and did not bother to buy the wing as I did a copy of the 5VM aero package from C7 Carbon as it was constrained months prior.

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't mean to suggest it was being shipped from BG. I completely agree it makes more sense to have it shipped direct from the mfr. That is why I am asking if anyone has recent experience with this. Trying to assess whether they are in stock or not (from the source).

Default Built January 11

My C8 was built January 11. I ordered it with the high wing. Bought through MM. It’s on a truck right now headed for Courtesy Delivery in Las Vegas. If its coming without the high wing, I would think MM would have mentioned that. MM has been top-shelf service through my whole buying experience. JMO. I should find out for sure sometime this week.

Same boat here, build date 1/15. My understanding is that there is supply of high wings in reserve specifically for new builds. That if your allocation was accepted and TPW assigned it means that a spoiler was available in the system for your specific build. Additionally, my research, which could be wrong, reflects that body color wings are in better supply than carbon flash wings, as the existing supply isn't drawn from as frequently as the Carbon Flash supply.
I was told my wing in Carbon Flash is good, however the Carbon flash version of the 5VM style splitter and side skirts are on back order. For that reason my dealer left that off of my build and ordered them separately. Who knows how long they will take to arrive. If anyone knows please pipe up,

If you ordered the car with the 5ZU body colored high wing spoiler you are getting it. If any option or LPO is on constraint the order won't pass and the dealer has to remove that option from the order. I don't understand how stupid some of these dealers are and can't give you a straight answer.

It took 2-1/2 months for me to get mine. I was also out of state. I picked a local dealer that I used for previous service, the selling dealer called them at my request to discuss it. They shipped directly to the installing dealer but sent me the check and I paid for the install. Same price as the check so it all worked out fine. The hardest part was being patient. Best of luck.

my16, it sounds like the dealer you bought from took good care of you and that it all worked out well. How long ago did you take delivery and was it a carbon wing or body colored? I wonder if the backorder you experienced is still going on today.

Does anyone know when chevy will get high wings back in order?

In general When there is a constraint how long does it take for them to unconstraint it? Do people just order something else or do they wait?

Heck how could anyone know when the vendor pulled an option I wanted before the 1st C8 was built. Then constrained three items I ordered: side skirts. splitter and high wing!

I wanted what was indicated on C8 build sheet, the same thing I bought for my 2017 Grand Sport. The aero option splitter and side skirts painted carbon flash. That was removed from the option list before I placed my "hold-a-spot" order for my C8 July 2019. Had to buy the 5VM with carbon fiber finish for $4500. That was constrained early 2020. So although my C8 was months away when C7 Carbon, a Platinum Forum Vendor, announced a preproduction special of the equivalent of the 5VM and I could buy it painted carbon flash for $1129 with free shipping, I placed my early order. (Note with inflation and higher cost of raw materials, since prices are higher BUT still a great value.) My C8 arrived September 2nd 2020 and the splitter was shipped soon after and the side skirts some weeks later. Products look and worked great. Because their fiberglass construction (with final layer of real carbon fiber cloth available at a higher cost) looked and was packaging was great.

From my past experience they make great products. Was no question when my high wing was constrained I was going to buy the C7 Carbon painted carbon flash copy! Turned out I liked the Z51 wing so didn't but would have been my choice.

Here are some pics to validate why i went aftermarket and would do it again!

C7 Carbon Visible Carbon Fiber Cloth on Outside Splitter on My 2014 C7 Z51.

My 2017 Grand Sport Rear Diffuser Came With Super Packaging. Zero Damage On This Very Large Part.

Looked and Fit Great.

C8 Side Skirts and Splitter. Thicker Fiberglass Than if All Carbon Fiber Meant NO Drilling of Fender. Only Rivets and One OEM Bolt on Bottom. Look Great and Fit Tight 16 Months After Install.

The dealer did a good job. Car was delivered in early Oct and I received the wing late December and the # 4 car cover arrived end of last week. I still see a few comments about back orders, but not as frequent.

My car arrived at the dealer on 1/13/22 and the carbon flash high wing arrived on 1/17. They also didn't know when it was coming until it arrived.

Hi all. I am the OP on this thread and want to share an update. Car was built on Jan 20 and arrived at the dealer in Texas on Jan 26. The high wing had already arrived at the dealership via separate shipment and was installed during PDI with no issues. I immediately sent the car to Tritek (Garland, TX) for PPF and it is now on a transport to me in South Florida. Arriving this afternoon! Good luck to all!

That is beautiful, you are going to be so happy when you see it. I've had mine for one week today and I still can't believe it's mine! We have 700+ miles on it already and it has been amazing. Still waiting on the 5VM ground effects kit that's on backorder. Enjoy!

I have a 22 coupe at Hendrick in ATL. Built 1/31/22. Delivered to Hendrick 2/4/22. As of 2/7/22 still waiting for Carbon Flash High Wing. Dealer says backordered and no ETA. Yikes. Doesn't appear order restriction logic discussed above is still working. May be its stuck in LA harbor?

Car arrived at dealer without High Wing. Dealer said it should arrive in 2 to 3 days. Another car at same dealer has been waiting for 3-weeks but owner said his deal was done and he paid while car still sits at dealer waiting for wing.

My question is, can dealer force a deal and keep car while waiting for the high wing to arrive? Hell no, I am not closing deal till I can drive off but wanted to know if dealer can force the issue some how? Something about Chevrolet won't allow delivery without it - this true?

If Chevy won't allow delivery without it (which some have also said- assume it in on the Invoice to dealer from them) then dealer will (should) not be invoiced! In my case it was on the build list up to 2 weeks prior to the build then was constrained. Dealer nor I got billed.

I was ready to buy a C7 Carbon High Wing copy (as I had already ordered and early preproduction 5VM which had been constrained months before.) But when car arrived wife and I liked the standard Z51 wing so never did,

I purchased my car out of state, paid for the car and the car got delivered without the high wing. It was 2 months before it arrived. I was patient, impatient and everything in between. It will arrive and you will be extremely happy when it come. Take your car and eventually it will all fall into place. Don't put yourself in a situation where you could possibly lose the car. Others are waiting to buy it. Best of luck!

My car arrived at the dealer on 1/27, no high wing yet. My neighbor is the GM of the dealer, so he keeps me in the loop constantly with his conversations with the territory managers. The supplier is having a hell of a time getting the parts to GM, thus the long delays. However, he said that if you're name is tied to an allocation for the high wing, you will get it, just no timetable as to how long it will take. Just waiting on that final piece!!!
