Default launch mode

My friend came by yesterday and asked me if I had tried the launch mode..I had totally forgotten about that feature..He said it will blow your mind...
So my question is do i need to wait till I get 1500 miles on her before I try this????????
I have almost 900 miles... I know you need the 1500 miles for track but this is a lot of stress on her, so I am thinking I should wait...Imput is appreciated..

Hmm, not saying the car will break using it at 500 miles BUT GM doesn’t stress your C8 engine or DCT before you get it. Engine runs for the 1st time when it is driven off the assembly line. No dyno test to see if will produce 495 hp.

With DCT issues having torque through both clutches that only occurs in Launch mode puts extra stress on DCT parts.

GM says wait for 1500 miles before Tracking for a reason.

I did it not long after 500. It's feature, the car is made to use it. Use it.

It's not the engine that needs the breaking in for 500 miles or 1500 miles.. it's the tranny. All those gears need to ---for lack of better term-- learn to mesh with one another.

I'd wait for 1500. ...

Will you "hurt" anything? .. Nothing that will show up IMMEDIATELY. .. If you're not planning on keeping the car for 50,000 plus miles, go ahead and abuse it.

Its a grey area on whether or not you are supposed to use launch mode before 1500 miles. Even if you do it is unlikely to cause problems. And if it did cause problems it would be hard to tie it to using launch mode prior to 1500 miles.
But I was patient and waited until after 1500 miles to be sure.

Might as well wait till 2500 miles. Or maybe 25000 miles. Sorry. I know, worthless post.

Go for it. If it hurts anything at 500 miles it was going to break at 1500 miles.

Some debate about this but I’d wait till 1500 miles. It may not break immediately but that doesn’t mean it’ll last as long either, if you haven’t heard, DCT reliability on C8’s aren’t exactly it’s strong suit.

The way the owners manual is written, any failure prior to 1500 miles gives GM an out not to cover a replacement since it stresses no track use prior to 1500 miles and launch control is claimed in the manual to not be used on the street.

Not true. I’ve toured the factory. They run it through the gears but they’re not testing launch control,

They do think things will break which is why they say to avoid track events till 1500 miles. Any violation of which can result in being turned down for a warranty claim. I don’t know for sure, but I’d bet that’s something they can easily pull from the computer.

If GM has the ability to govern the redline at 3500 until 500 miles they have the ability to lockout launch control until they feel comfortable. Right?

It doesn’t govern the redline at all. The display indicates a lower redline, but you rev right past that all you want.

Depends. Drive it like you stole it or someone else paid for it then hammer down and get rid of it. Long term keeper. Even Tadge said go easy for at least 1000 miles and it will last a lot longer.

If I were a flipper, I’d use launch control at 3 miles, then sell it at a profit a few months later.
That’s also why I wouldn’t buy from a flipper.

Redline is not govern at 3500 rpm. The tach red line lights change at 500 miles. The 10% or 15% less torque below 500 miles is more due reduction of timing, thus protecting the drivetrain from full torque load until 500 miles.

To the OP: I waited until after 1500 miles which is when I changed the engine oil and filter, then tried launch control.

The section starts with the words - "recommended guidelines".
Not too much of a legal out when you begin a section in that way.
